I've been using Irfan View for many years too and can't believe that such a great program is still free. Be sure to download all the plugins too!

Another freeware is Picasa from Google.com

It will organized and resize your pictures a number of ways.

Callynne, I use paint too, the same way Ashbys does. In the Stretch/Skew I reduce the 100% (H&V) to 30% & 30% and this will reduce a 1MB picture to about 50KB.

Thanks, everyone, for all the great advice!! First thing I checked was if I had Paint, I do, but couldn't get it to work right. I took my picture in (at 100%), tried reducing it in 'Attributes', only thing is, it just chopped part of the picture off.

I played around with it for a bit last night, trying different things, couldn't figure it out. After what you wrote, Bill, I wondered if what I should have done was take a 25% size and 'resize' it. I'll try that first (since I already have one saved at 25% and see if it works). See ya later...wish me luck! Deborah

Bummer, that didn't work! The picture was just as small and messed up looking. I tried doing one at 100% in Paint, entered in the 30% x 30% and up popped a box saying " Please Enter an Integar" I would, if I knew what the heck an Integar was.

Any other advice to working with Paint? I wanted to try using it first, since I already have it on my computer!

I also have HP Image Zone Plus. I tried using it to size a picture (not from a scan, just one saved on my computer), couldn't see how to do it either. Having a real Duhhhhh, time here! I know I'm making this harder than it has to be, just don't know how I'm making it that way! Deborah

Deborah,
I can't help, but I sure hope you get it figured out fast...I always enjoy seeing those green smiley faces on your posts and hate to see that yellow one beating her head against that brick wall!
Good luck!
Wade

Deborah,
Check out this link...

http://woodcarvingillustrated.com/fo...ead.php?t=4696

The easiest thing to do is to download the software Rob suggests. Then put your photo on the desktop, right-click on it, choose "resize". This will bring up a new dialog box...click on "advanced" then you can size it to 480x640 easily!

Call me if you need help!

Bob

Deborah,
When I downloaded this picture in Kodak easyshare it was 1.18mb @ 2080x1544 pixels and when I opened it in Paint it was 1.14mb, I used "save as" without doing anything else just to see how big the file would be and the new file was 309kb.
I opened the original picture (1.18mb) in Paint and used stretch/skew to reduce the entire image to 30%H x 30%V and using "save as" the new file is 42.3kb (it makes a nice size picture on the monitor).
All three pictures 1.18mb, 309kb and 42.3kb were saved in Kodak but I have to go to "my pictures" and look in the Kodak file, I don't know why they will not show up in easyshare.

Let me know if this will work for you

Bill
..............edit..........
