Default Question on BLO

Have any of you had BLO freeze?

A elderly gentleman called me up yesterday afternoon and ask me if it did and of course, I said, "No", don't think so. Well, he invited me down and in a mason jar was frozen BLO. He thought that there was water in it but I would think the BLO would settle and there would be water on top. Right?
If there is any chemist out there, please explain why or how it froze. Thank you

I forgot to add that it got down to zero the night before.

If you lower the temperature of BLO it increases the viscosity (i.e. resistance to flow) of the oil. According to some info. I got from the net, BLO starts to solidify at about 1.7 C (34 F) and solidifies completely at about -15 C (4 F). Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I believe In my , I answerd my own question on BLO freezing as It did. The answer to my question as you have related to is Yes. Well duh, It froze so Yes it does freeze.

Sometimes I come up with some lame questions and if I thought( which my little bride says I don't) I would have known the answer.
