| | Re: Protocol query The last thing I would try to do is sell carvings to carvers. But just because somone else tries to sell wood or something here doesn't necessarily make it kosher. I want to know what the rules are. |

| | Re: Protocol query I believe it is a common understanding that we carvers do not sell carvings here on this board. There was talk a while back about making a seperate place to do so but BobD is busy with the two magazine and probably have put it on the back burner.
I would say common sense would dictate a carver not selling his or her carvings here. That isn't why the board was set up.
As for the rules, I am clue less.
Personally, I would not sell on this board. That is MY rule. |

| | Re: Protocol query For what its worth, my understanding is that if you want to buy something from someone here, contact them via private message and proceed. If you have a tool or something that would be of use to someone here, mention it...I think what was talked about was no "commercial" selling. I see nothing wrong if I have a carving tool/implement that someone may want, to mention that you would like to sell it. We have several suppliers that discuss their particular products, we recommend Rick to people all the time, we have several selling wood...but up to now, none of that has been disruptive, just a comment. All this is my opinion and we will have to wait until the great poopah makes the determination ha ha |

| | Re: Protocol query WCI may not want to get involved in something like that because of a possible liability issue at some point.
Another forum - computer based - that I check out has a forum for 'valuations' on items that forum goers are thinking of selling. No actual transactions take place, but sales do happen thru the personal mesage option as outlined above.
Maybe this is the way to go?
Come to think of it, it would be nice to be able to show something to a fellow carver, and ask their opinion as to what they think it would be worth. I've always had trouble figuring out how to price my carvings, and I think others do as well. |

| | Re: Protocol query This was a problem the last time it came up and it was if I am not mistaken about selling wood at the time. What the rule was that this is a message board for woodcarvers who wanted to get advice and share ideas not a place to buy and sell carvings. There are plenty of them on Ebay if you really want to do so. I agree with Dave if you like a what someone here carves then contact them via email. I have sold to some members of this board and purchased carvings from members of this board but not thru the message board. BobD is away for a few days but I am sure this is what he has decreed. I just deleted a post on the weekend of someone trying to sell thru this board and I got the approval from BobD on the monday.

| | Re: Protocol query Colin, I agree completely. And I never mentioned anything about selling carvings. The reason I asked was that I noticed that someone was trying to sell some wood and I wondered if that was legitimate. |

| | Re: Protocol query Right on. I don't mind the post where someone is offering free wood but there are other ways to offer wood or anything else for sale. Good topic to bring up again.

| | Re: Protocol query How about someone mentioning they're putting a piece, carving, tool or wood, on ebay? That way they're just giving a "head's up" to fellow carvers, not trying to sell it here. I'm not trying to sell anything but like to know what woodcarvers have for sale.
