| | Re: Pray For Rain In Southeast ! Hi , It's been way before March sense we have had rain.. The hay in the fields is all brown now and my neighbor is thinking about selling his cows as he can't find hay for them.. It's critical here in Waycross area..
Everyone is on edge about a spark from things now or even lighting if we ever have that again .. I am praying and praying... There must be a good reason that the good Lord is not responding now.. I heard on the Jacksonville news that there is a new type of virus that is worse than the
West Nile Virus.. maybe he is getting rid of that misquito that carries it.. Just a thought.. Charlotte |

| | Re: Pray For Rain In Southeast ! I know that feeling Dave.. I was sitting here at the computer and looked out the window at the pond.. Oh, goody, goody...rain drops on the pond..I got all excxited and waaalaaa .... It was if someone turned of the tap just as I said yipee... It has got to the point when I see a few drops , I just say...Not now... It will happen.. one day.. I think! Somehow I have got to go across the pond and water the new willow tress that we planted last year.. I would cry if they died... I also have pumped water into the pond for months everyday and night ,trying to keep my catfish, etc..from dying.. How long can I keep this up...??? | | Re: Pray For Rain In Southeast ! I sure wish the good Lord would send some of our rain your way. South central Oklahoma just came out of an eight year drought and a good thing has gone too far. My house has flooded twice in the past six weeks, last time last night. We were going to go to a dance last night but then decided not to because the weather was too wet. Really dodged a big bullet. About 8:30 pm we got a frog strangler after normal, gentle rain all day. Fortunately, we were home and I sandbagged the front door real quick. Water flooded the garage but we made a valiant effot to fight the water that came past the sandbags on the front door and, between my shop vac and many towels, managed to control most of the flooding in the foyer. The hallway only got about three square feet of water. After the flooding six weeks ago, we were ready for this one and, once we recognized the symptoms, got busy and forestalled another disaster........
It was a hard evening but the only thing left to do this morning, after I cleared the garage of water, is to clean a HUGE mess in the driveway... |

(I know you really didn't mean that anyway). I wouldn't say that what I am experiencing is any worse than what you folks are, it's just different. One extreme is just as bad as the other. Too bad we can't always stay in the middle ground.
Like I mentioned, all this water took us out of a six year drought and that has been horrible. Last year I had four trees, a redbud, two mapled, and a sycamore, give up the ghost because of it. I don't even recall how many of my golden eunymous died because of it plus my one and only southern magnolia got hit bad. It didn't die but took a severe hit and looks terrible with many dead branches. It is in bloom now, however, so I think it's gonna make it. I guess it'll take a few years and it should look as good as new. I started watering like crazy last year and that probably saved a lot of the trees. The ole oak trees, however, are just hanging in there and don't seem to be bothered by anything. Probably red oaks, I don't really know.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Hope you get out of your drought soon, just hope it does it gently and not swing to the other extreme......

| | Re: Pray For Rain In Southeast ! Wolf, know I didn't really mean that, but I wouldn't want water in my house for sure. What ususally bring us rain at this time of year..Well, June and on, are tropical storms..They come up from the Gulf .. In 2004 we had a tropical storm and two hurricanes that came threw here..Of course by the time they reached us the winds were not as bad but lots of rain. I am fearful for all the rrees also because of the drought..When you plant them and wait for years to see them become full grown it is so sad to loose them..Like loosing a friend. Sorry to hear you lost so many trees.. The weather never never stays the same..That's why they say.. One can't predict the weather. Hang in there and take care. Charlotte |

| | Re: Pray For Rain In Southeast ! Still trying to cut this big tree down in between rains. Sure wish we could send som Ga's way for sure.
Here we just came out of a drought also, and lots of prayers were answered. But now, the churchs are praying for the rain to stop. I always have said. be carefull what you ask for.
But, I will not cut limbs in the rain nor try to stand on limbs and cut them off of the tree. Still have a lot to cut but the center big limb and the brached off limbs that were on it are on the ground.
BUT,,,, the center did not fall like we planned and hit another limb which now is laying on my smashed up redwood fence.
I thought the truck was only 10 foot around but we meassured and it is 16 foot and inchs. the center limb is as thick as from my fingertips and past my shoulder.
Raining today and forecasted to rain tomorrow and 40% chance Tuesday.
Hate to hear of your flooding Wolf. Where bouts in Centeral Ok are you. I am 79 miles north of Tulsa on 75 at the OK and Kan border.
Miss Charllotte, I have been praying to send rain your way. Pray all is well with you. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
