Default "Pictures Of Hollis Woods"

Just a reminder to one and all that the holiday movie, "Pictures of Hollis Woods" starring Sissy Spacek and Jodelle Ferland airs at 2100-hours (for you Marines that 9:00 p.m. - Ha! Ha!) on CBS. For a write up on the movie refer to Wood Carvings Illustrated's 2007 Holiday issue, Page 32, Woodcarving Hollywood-style.

It looks like it's going to be a great movie!

Thumbs Up Eddy, just finished watching it and enjoyed it very much--a real feel good movie. The carving of Hollis is outstanding, wonder what the hair was made out of--any guesses?

I watched it too. I rate it as a four kleenex show. And those commercials.. if that movie didnt jerk a tear or two those commercials sure did. *sniffing*

The carver in me wishes they would have shown more activity on carving..

Hey all! We taped it too and will hopefully watch soon. My family wanted to watch Tin Man so I was outvoted. It was an excellent book so I have high hopes for the movie.

Also - I had another post about "The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey" which nobody responded to. But if you like the Hollis Woods movie I am guessing you might like this one too. You can get it on DVD really cheap from Amazon. I got mine for about $12 including shipping.

It was a great movie! It is just too bad that there are not more movies of that quality on either the big screen or TV. It seems like all we get these days is gore and more gore, if they haven't shown at least one bloody body in the first 5 minuts of the show, it is not a normal show. I wish Hallmark did more shows as they are always great, with a real story line and real people in real situations. If our kids are brought up on nothing but violence on TV or movies, it stands to reason death and violence will be acceptable to them.

With you all the way on that Baldy. My kids have all transitioned into those teen years where (at least my boys anyway) are totally bored with a movie like this. Not enough "ACTION" to hold their interest.

Now, to be fair when I was their age - I probably was the same. It kinda reminds me of the story of the mother who was dead set against her two young boys playing "army" and "old west" shoot em up games, and fought to keep toy guns out of the house. One day she sent them out to play in "nature" (the woods out back) and went out to check on them after a little while. They had taken some sticks (nature) and were pretending they were . . . guns and playing "army"! Heh heh - go figure. ;-)

To some extent I think there is a natural inborn violence and competitiveness in boys and perhaps some girls too, that wants to fight the "bad guys" and vanquish evil, etc. So - yeah - there is a lot of gore and violence in our movies. But the ones that really get me aggravated are the ones that seem to glorify random violence and predation on innocent victims.

Still - Ill try to get them to watch Hollis and Jonathan Toomey - and maybe I'll get at least a little real human feeling and emotion into the equation. Worth a try anyway.

Cheers

Here is an image of the doll, I think it does look like yarn. I love this carving!
