Default Perfect Chestnut Weather!

Yesterday was a perfect day for our two Chinese Chestnut trees. There was a light rain in the morning followed by a warm sunny autumn afternoon. Perfect conditions for our trees to "pop" their chestnut burrs to the ground full of fat chestnut for us eat.

This morning is just as beautiful as yesterday so I walked out to the orchard to gather my chestnuts, happily dreaming of the fun of roasting them this evening.

There are huge chestnut burrs everywhere ... some pale green, some golden yellow and a few rich brown ... all of them widely open. So, as is my habit I began picking up the burrs, placing them at the base of the tree and gathering the nuts.

Well ... I easily found over 60 burrs which hold on average two nuts each ... I found three chestnut nuts! THREE! Each of these three are very nice big nuts, at least one cubic inch each.

So somewhere out there this morning is a gray squirrel with a 117 cubic inch tummy and a terrible case of the 'over eatings'.

Squirrel ... deer ... coons ... opossums ... I think there may have been a late Autumn Equinox party in the orchard last night and I wasn't invited.

Sigh!

Susan

Reminds me of an Old Johnny Cash Song,
"A Squirrel Named SUE" or somethin like that. LOL
Sorry Sue,
Goody
