Funny you should mention gardening. I started out great, first nice day we added 10 new beds to the 20 I already have in the garden. Between tilling, shoveling, bending and lifting I blew two disks in my back out.

So yup, I'm taking a break from carving and gardening and pretty much anything to do with standing up, with those funky muscle relaxers and pain pills, its just not safe to carve. I tried it one night when I was verrrry bored from sitting around and dropped my project twice. I quit. Dont need to try to get my bent self to the ER room with a nasty cut.

As far as garden, my green house is full, I've got spuds, peas, beans, radish, kohlrabi, chives, dill all planted. My mother has been coming over to help get it in this spring. And my hubby is monitoring the greenhouse. He hasnt a clue on what he's drowning out there..but hey.. gotta luv him for trying to help out.

The only flowers I have is a peony plant thats amazingly staying alive through all the torture its been through and I'll toss in zinnia seeds in blank spots in the garden. OH and two tulips that insist on coming back... LOL

I'd love to see pictures of others gardens as they grow. I'll try to get some of mine too as the summer goes on.

Marcia.

OH BOY! I would love to share and would love to see! I hope there will be lots of pictures! I get so many ideas from seeing what other folks are doing! I am putting my garden in this week. It seems such a daunting task right now, thankfully? I have my dad in law to help! I have to walk him around the garden and point out the no no's just like he was one of my kids! "See this? DON"T WEED EAT IT!!!" HA! Looking forward to pictures!

Had a terrible case of toxemia during my last pregnancy...my face is not usually so ummm...round...but the flowers did great!

the herb bed in it's first season-so happy with it!

I love my lavender

the Gazebo that my dad built me for a wedding present. Naturalized herbs and plants all the way up to it and beyond it is herb land ...he he he

I will be putting in some hot weather veggies soon but where we live, it's the winter garden that is the good one. I grow lots of Chinese veggies through the winter. I don't put much in during the summer because of the heat and the bugs. Some Chinese long beans, sometimes called asperagus beans, and some hot weather spinach, that's about it. but my other gardening hobby keeps me pretty busy. I have attached a photo of the bonsai area taken earlier this year before it was safe to put my tropicals back out, thus the large empty areas on the shelves.... they are all back on the shelves now. Will have to take a new photo to post it.

For mothers day, Stephanie's aunt gave us 16 tomato plants, 3 eggplants, 9 brussel sprouts, 3 cabbages, 2 watermelon, and 3 pepper plants...we planted them last night, and got up this morning to see a rabbit in the garden...so tonight I put up fencing!

Bob, if you manage to stop that rabbit (I recommend gumbo); you better start hunting somebody to take tomatoes off your hands.

I mentioned that to my wife...she said I can take care of groundhogs, but not cute bunnies <GRIN>

Stephanie's aunt and Grandmother still do a lot of canning, and offered to help us can the extra tomatos. Her aunt planted 78 tomato plants in her garden...she's got more than an acre of just garden!

Paul, Years ago we had two black labs that we thought would tend to the garden rabbit problems and protect our tomatoes. We were only partically right in that ... they did keep the rabbits away from the tomato plants but we soon figured out it was to protect their 'borght red play balls" that we would see them running with in games of 'catch me if you can'.

Niether the rabbits nor we ever got any tomatoes that year.

Here's some pictures of my veggie garden and some stuff growing around the house and at the nursery. The white flower is a treepeony I grew from seed about 6yrs ago, 1st time to bloom this year, very exciting! The reddish flower is a treepeony I bought few years back, 1st time to bloom this year.Got hostas and ferns in oak barrel next to our house. My husband the carpenter made the row cover to go over the lettuce. We have 6 rows of spuds in, onions, summer squash, tomatos, beans, chard, cukes, chokes, and lots of weeds. The mighty hunter, A.K.A. the carpenter, has traps set for the gophers. He's got at least 3 so far. He's darn pround of himself,Iam too of him!Hoping to have enough to feed us my sis, kids, grandkids, donate to the foodbank and even let the varmits have a little. If anyone is into escargot, we have lots of the slimey little buggers and you can get all ya want! WE'LL gladly share!

Here's some more pictures. We have the front yard, it's a work in process(17yrs), hopefully to be dug up and moved with our double wide to our property a couple miles away in the near future, and the magic miracle pellets in the white tubs,( they're little and round and furry little critters pop them out, don't eat em though!) Then there's another pic of the side of the house with a fivefinger fern, japanese maples, tea tree, etc. and the ever present weeds!
