Claude, Thanks for the tip. My fly tying skills are pretty basic and never learned to tie a decent dry fly. But I'm not too proud to buy them. ![]() This is the year I finally learn to cast with a fly rod. I've been using my flies with ultra light spinning gear on local ponds, 2 or 4 pond test line, a little bobber for weight. It works but lacks elegance. I might finally be at the point where I can substitute technique and patience for muscle and stubbornness, my traditional methods. Wood carving with knives and palm gouges is teaching me the patience. Jeff |

We did not get as much snow on the lower shore of Maryland as you guys did up the road but it's going to be a real challenge getting out to the road. The picture with the lights was taken yesterday during the storm and just past the far light there is a 6" pine down across the driveway (about 200' from the house) but there's another 1600' of woods driveway on the other side of that tree before I get to a paved road and I have no idea how bad it is, this is really starting to look like a lot of hard work! The other pictures were taken this morning from my bedroom window, my old work van is in that pile of snow and the downed pine tree across the drive is between the two pines. My Sunday truck (that's what Mom calls it) has not been out of the garage since the foot of snow we got last weekend. I just went down to the 6" pine and could see two more smaller pines down before the first bend in the road, I'm guessing there are a lot more between there and the county road. The clearing around the car is not banked up like it is around the house and measures 16" and 17". |

Anna and I have been out since early this morning and have finally made a little headway thru this mess. Now if the rest of the community would get out an do a little we could get out to the main roads. The state is telling us 3 to 5 days before they get to the secondary roads. Done for the day. Can't move this stuff like I could when I was younger. Finishing up the third batch of jerky. This should last for a while. For some reason I have come to enjoy a cup of black coffee and jerky. Goody

| Thought I'd pop in to see how you folks are making out with all the snow you've been getting. I hope everyone is safe and warm. Thanks for the photos. You know, I can remember 35 years ago and longer when it was normal to have snow like that all winter...and c.o.l.d! But not anymore; it seems our winters here in Southern Canada keep getting milder and damper with less and less snow every year. And here you are getting clobbered with the snow. Kinda scary! Take care everyone! Leslie |

Harold ... and everyone else that got hit by this last storm! I expect by now you have heard the weather report for tonight, Feb.9th, and tomorrow, Feb. 10th. Mt. Airy looks to be adding up to 20 more inches on top of our 29 1/2" .... AHHHHHHHH! Our contractor brough in his bobcat yesterday morning and dug us out ... just in time to make a 'panic run' to the grocery store for today's storm. I really don't mind the snow but five more days of being housebond with twelve cats is getting a bit too much. It sort of says something to me when the grocery store run is milk (all gone!), bread (nope!), pizzas (to keep our son happy) and kitty litter ... lots and lots of kitty litter. Susan |

I remember that 35 years ago, too... really not exaggerating... walking home from school in snow almost to my waist... (granted, I was little, but that would still be pretty high). But it was below freezing when it started then, so the first 10 inches didn't weigh a ton. I am starting to have new ideas about why my parents had 4 kids in 4 years! Ha. 6 to 8 more today here... I give up. I am going to drive over it! Well.... we'll see, I guess... *sigh*

I was beginning to feel sorry for you Goody, until I saw the picture with you off tabogganing on the hill behind your house. You are having way too much fun. Boy that jerky looks good. At least you should be able to make it through the winter now. Keep warm, Tom |

A Crash In the Night. Well its coming down again and the damage is beginning to hit close to home. We heard a loud crash about 3:00 am. The neighbors awning let go and broke a couple of windows in the house. Got them closed back up with a plastic garbage bag and good old duct tape. Mine is bowing underneath and I have it sured up and have been trying to get some of the snow off it but Mother Nature is winning. I swear shes related to my wife! Goody
