Talking ok-now I am totally full of myself!!!

Today was a red letter day for me...not scarlet letter, lol...but a red letter!
The fair I met Sharon at was a lot of fun. It was directed at kids and a healthy environment, so I thought more kids needed to be involved. I wrote a simple question and asked the elementary school kids.
"Whats one thing you could do to positively benefit your community?" It was beautiful!!!
The things these kids said brought me to tears. I got a huge sheet of plywood and made a sandwich board out of it and posted everyone of them on it. All day long it was the center of attention and people loved it-I was not the only teary-eyed one for sure!
Well, today there was a letter from me thanking the kids and telling the community what a great job they had done and what awesome kids we had!
There was also a picture of me in the paper with my sandwich board!
I had also taken a few pictures of a huge oak tree that had been taken down, before and after. It was so cool...they were on the front page!
My dad lead the kids parade around the park in a tutu and blowing a horn and a kazoo...lol...at the same time! He was pictured in the paper as well!!!! Wahoo!!!
The coolest coolest part was that usually on the front page there is a section called High Crimes and Misdemeanors...small town...you know...gosip reighns supreme...BUT NOT TODAY!!!!
Today was a totally positive paper! It looked like a great small town paper and I am so proud to have been a part of it!
So, thanx for listening-er reading! This forum is so supportive, I appreciate you always letting me share!

G'day Keoma,
and congratulations for striking a blow <grin> I think newspapers the world over are the same, if it isn' blood or mud,.... doom or gloom, then it just aint worth reporting........how lovely for you to have a hand in your community waking to positive start to their day thru the newspaper. Wonder why nobody has ever decided to produce a 'paper that promises only to report positive and good news ?
Well done Keoma!
John

That is a great story. I'm sure those kids will remember that for a long time. I bet there were some touching suggestion on how to improve the community, maybe even some that should be on the political campaign tour. I sure hope some of the kids' picture was in the paper also. At their age that is important and the stuff that will be put away in the scrapbook for a lifetime.

Well done Keoma! That is a great way to get folks thinking positive and steering kids into thinking about how they can help their community. Great job.

Bob

Great job on Community involvement. I'm sure the Kids and community will remember this, they may look to you to do something like that again. Your little town is blessed to have you as a citizen. Merle

Thank you all so much! The kids were amazing! I plan on doing this every year! It was such a rewarding expirience! And yes, susie-my dad is the greatest! My kids love him to bits, they were in the parade with him, my eldest with a peace flag and my youngest with an American flag. It was just beautiful!
