Hi Bob. Thanks for the help. Hope to hear from you soon. I really do like getting the email heads up.
May I ask who Claudio is?

John,
Sorry...we spent the morning cleaning up a spam attack over the weekend. Claudio is the webmaster, he's got a much greater understanding of the software that I do. I work with the software and try to make it do what I want it to do; Claudio can change the software to make it do what he wants it to do!

Claudio's good...According to what he's found, all but one of you use MSN/Hotmail as an e-mail. He's going to check and see if the forum e-mail address was blacklisted as junkmail...

Hey guys,

I'm Claudio...I'm our tech guy. For the most part, most of you are using MSN/Hotmail, it looks like something with their spam filter is catching messages generated from our message board. I'm running some tests right now to see what is actually causing this, but in the interim, you might want to add woodcarvingillustrated.com to the "safe senders" list in Hotmail/MSN. I'm not sure if all of their interfaces work the same, but in the test hotmail account I setup this can be done from "options" >> "more options..." >> "Safe and blocked senders" section (I'm using the expereimental new version). You will most likely want to add us to both the "safe senders" and the "safe mailing lists" section as not all messages are addressed to each member specifically from this message board. At this point I'm not 100% sure this will fix the issue, but it is a step in the right direction. I'm also trying to contact Microsoft via their postmaster group, however from past expereince this sometimes takes a few days to get a response, and then a few days to get a satisfactory result. I will try to keep you posted as I get any new info.

You may also want to enable the "Report junk messages" feature in the "Filters and reporting" section, Microsoft has a feature that will notify responsible senders if you think their messages are spam. I've used a similar service AOL offers and we get good responses from it and generally use it to prevent mail being sent to users who feel our messages are spam.

Thanks Bob and Claudio.

Does the system work that it sees a lot of emails from one source and reads it as possible spam? Normal email traffice might be as high from a single source as we might get from WCI?

Thanks for the work you are doing.

Yes, It looks like MSN/Hotmail might have an issue with the volume of mail coming from our system. From most of their documentation it appears that their anti-spam system is as automated as possible, and so due to the volume it is most likely possible that we are flagged. I have not seen anything one way or another that classifies us definitely though, from our end the messages look to go through without any errors, but then on the MSN/Hotmail side they are nowhere to be seen.

I have a ticket in with their postmaster support group so I'm hoping to have a human look at this issue and resolve it for us ASAP. We diligently subscribe to email best-practices much of which Microsoft themselves evangelize on their website, so it seems strange that their service would single this message board out. I have read other message board admins having similar issues with MSN/Hotmail in the past so it seems like this might just be a common occurrence with their service and the fight against spam.

Thanks Claudio,

I did go to the options section and list WCI as safe sender. Will give you an update if that works.
