Default Northwest Carver Passes on???

Hi All,

This may seem a bit of an odd question...I was watching the local PBS show Oregon Art Beat, Thanksgiving week, and at the very end of the show they announced that a Northwest carver, Leroy Stessle had passed on after an illness. I have done several Google searches and come up empty. PBS' brief mention stated that he was instrumental in the revival of wood carving in the Pacific Northwest.

Now for the questions...Who was Leroy?? What did he carve? Does anyone on this board know anything about him?

The examples that were shown almost like a background behind him in the brief mention on PBS, looked like maybe architectural carving(?). Any info or maybe if there is a book in the library I could checkout to read up on this individual would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help here,

Chahlie
