I have been getting nagged for about 6 mo or a year about getting my hearing checked. I just thought everyone just mumbled. Well I went in last week and had a hearing test and was surprised to find I have lost over half my hearing in both ears this old fart had to get two hearing aids. Today I went and learned how to take care of them and replace them batteries and such. But I can't believe all the things I hear now. It just amazed me all that I had been missing. They got me back to 100 percent in the right and 95 in the left. I think it was a smart move no matter how expensive they were I need all the hearing I can get maybe since I can't see it maybe I can hear it coming better. Just goes to show that all the years running routers and other machinery will destroy it without you realizing it. So please remember to wear your hearing protection when running power tools and such. Ron

Good for you Ron. I got mine a couple of years ago and couldn't believe I was that deaf. I do take them out when the younger grandkids are over for a visit, I'm sure you understand. Dan |

Good to hear from you Ron! I too will be facing that sometime in the future. Right now I can still get by calling it "selective hearing". Scott |

Congratulations Ron, on the near normal return. Several years ago my hearing got so bad that I fnally relented and went to an audiologist. My problem is that too many years of guns (no real man wore cotton in their ears back then) and chain saws (ear muffs! No Way!) started the damage. Then quinine for malaria while I was a Peace Corps Volunteer finished it off. They can get some of my hearing back but still waaaay below par. I have to use closed captions on TV, almost impossible to understand women's voices on the phone and forget hearing in a restaurant. But then, squeaking doors, high pitched hums from motors, and such don't bother me either. They are expensive little buggers though! By-the-way Walt Kuykendal sends his greetings. We are down in Miami, OK carving with Debbe Edwards. |

Paul: I don't know if you ever tried a product called "TV Ears" but for watching the tube they have been a great help for me.

Ron, must be long distance campaigning as he sure gets lots of phone calls. I was visiting with him the other night and after talking about the problems up there, I decided the winner might be the loser! Walt is a nice guy and I do hope he wins. |

I will look into the TV Ears; but, doubt they will help. Most things like that just increase the volume for the individual. With broadcast sound, this does not help me. This must be at a different frequency than the speaking voice. Actually, closed captions can be nice. Especially in the morings when watching the news does not wake Diana. It can be inconvient though. Diana and I enjoy musicals and have a pretty good collection. Recently, I got a copy of one version of "Sweeny Todd" and found that it did not have closed captions. What a disappointment! It was kinda like watching opera. I enjoy the sound; but, sure would like to know what the heck all the commotion is about. |

I wish my husband would go get checked. I have been after him about it and he knows he doesn't hear as well as he used to....that is an understatement! He frequently misunderstands what I say and it has caused a fit or two. He won't believe I didn't say that!! (what ever it is at the moment) He has to have the tv up so loud that I can't stay in the room with him to watch..... I have better than average hearing (we used to call it "mommy hearing") so it's extra hard on me. Thank God we have several tvs in the house. LOL! All you can do is laugh about it. At some point I will just have to quit talking to him until he goes to be checked. |

Hi Ron, and congrats on being able to hear better. My husband has told me for years that I "can't hear thunder". Well, I went to the doctor and had my hearing checked out after listening to him complain everytime I asked him to repeat himself....turns out, he mumbles! I can hear just fine. Thor |
