Since Bob posted those photos of his new Bunnie I guess I can show off our latest family addition. This is my wife's new horse who arrived on the place yesterday. His registered name is Super Slipper but the grandkids are in the process of picking a more casual moniker. He's a Tobiano gelding, 7 years old. Her other horse Sugar foundered during the big ice storm in January so she's down at the moment and will be for quite some time by the look of it. The one photo is of my horse Boomer giving the new arrival the once over. We put them together this morning so there is a contest presently going on to see who is going to be the dominant one.

Great photos Lynn! Thanks for sharing! I love to look at photos of horses...they look so noble! But I've learned, the hard way, that we don't get along in person...something about me just maked them ornery! We had a guy logging my parents land with draft horses...and I was in charge of feeding and watering them on weekends...well, he got a new mare, and later found out that she had been tranqued at the auction and she was a bit...wild. She reared on me once...and when you see hooves the size of dinner plates in your face...well...I've avoided horses ever since! Bob |

Lynn , Nice looking paint. The Tobiano blood line is a nice line. There was a farm down in Va. that use to breed them. Not sure it is still there but they had some really nice horses. He looks like he should have an excellent ride, through the canter. My black quarter is a bit long in the back , makes the canter just a bit rough , but your paint looks good. Has the one that foundered started recovering? I know that you said you were into the hoof trimming phase last time you posted. Once that slows down , hopefully she will recover quickly. What did she do that caused her to founder ? Any Idea ? Garry |

Lynn, She's beautiful! In the last photo, she has had her winter wooly coat brushed out, right? This time of year aren't they ... well, as a non-horse owning person ... just giant wooley bears? Susan |

Beautiful animals Lynn. I, too, love horses and love being around them. Although, I have to admit that I have spent a lot more time around mules than around horses. Learned to love (but never trust) them also. A few years back a friend asked to keep his horses in my pasture for a few months. He could not be out here every day so I did the feeding for him. One day, he found them running to me and nosing at my pockets when I came into the barn "You've got carrots in your pockets, haven't you?" I was guilty. "You love horses and love riding", he observed. "You need to get you a horse". He laughed when I replied, "Kenney, I love horses and I really love riding.........other people's horses!" Too much work for me on a routine basis. I am trying to limit my daily necessaries to a minimum. |

I love looking at your and Bob's new family members. It's one of the things that make this forum so neat. And now we know what your lovely wife looks like also.

Those are magnificant horses Lynn! I'd much prefer horses to bunnies. Had a bunny here for several years and that beast had a reall attitude! What a mean streak. Have never owned horses, never had the room, but use to enjoy riding, years ago. Such intelligent creatures. They would both make great subjects for carvings, Boomer is a real beauty! Thanks for sharing the pics and congratulations on the new arrival. Bob

Beautiful horses Lynn, and it must be very exciting to have a new one in the family. Mine are all muddy right now and waiting for me to come feed them. Brushing out the winter shedding hair is on my list for today. I think it calms me just as much as it does them. Horses are a real treasure in our lives. Thor |

[quote=Paul_Guraedy]Beautiful animals Lynn. I, too, love horses and love being around them. Although, I have to admit that I have spent a lot more time around mules than around horses. Learned to love (but never trust) them also. In N. Cal., a lot of the oldtimers remember logging with mules. They called them mean. It's my experience that if a mule is mean, it's because he was abused and was too smart to put up with it. I've heard some great stories about the intellagence of mules. |
