Today has been one of the most unique days I have had lately , and considering my days that is saying alot. When the interviewer arrived , she did not come alone, she came with her editor and a photo person. Seems they were planning an article on the live trees until they came into my office. They were speaking quite freely , and then as they entered there was this large silence. The first thing they saw was this double woodspirit of Colins standing just inside the the lobby , then on my file cabnet Goody's Santa , Dons, Gnome house, and Aflie's double eagles. Across the room , Stonewall , Lincoln , and the ladies where I was working on them while waiting for them to arrive, my first carving of a a dragon , my staffs, my paperweight, and two of the staghorn sumac pieces. A low rumble ....WOW! Goody, if I had brought the cane I think I would have had to call 911. Long story short , the interview went well I think , but I now have 3 students , as they would not leave until I promised to teach. Hammer . All I can say is More WOOD MORE WOOD ! Lol Ash |

Ash, Wood is good. Sounds like you are on your way to becoming a sought after carver. I was talking to a finanacial guy today and mentioned something about my carving week end and what does he say " Do you whittle?" Not! I was polite and said I like to carve and didn't bring up the word whittle again. I am really glad you bought my peice. It's nice to know that someone that appreciates what we do with wood owns it. Had a great time this past week end and am looking forward to our next gathering. I was very impressed with your work. It must be the moldmaking back ground Can't wait to see your next work! Don |

What a great story! You should be very proud. It is also cool that you could display the work of others and share the fun. Look forward to seeing your work in person some day. greg |

Thanks Guys I will be happy to post or get the interview for you, it is to be in the Pictett News, a local free newpaper in Washington County Maryland. Only Gods knows what may be in it , we talked for almost 4 hours. Very nice people and , I did do my plugs for WCI and the wild bunch , I think the story of the chainsaw pumpkin carver might get a slight mention . The one thing I really noticed was the attitude, towards all the carvings and how many questions they asked about the the difference in the styles. Would not surprise me to see Goody get a call about getting an article. Colin, the editor ask me if I would sell the little diamond I cut into the sumac. I told her there was no finish on it and she had to have it. So no finish , rough cut , but had to be signed staghorn sumac is now in a new home. Oh Don, I think your right. Has to be the mold making . Ash |
