| | Moving to Tennesee? Recently, I was reading a thread in here and some people were talking about moving, I think from some of the states that were hit by hurricanes, tornados, etc. and somebody suggested Tennessee. I was fascinated but now I can't find the post. I suppose at my age I should be glad I can even find this site, but I would like to find the thread again. Can anyone help to direct me? Thanks, Mike |

I don't know where the post is/was, but I do remember the information. |

| | Re: Moving to Tennesee? grampabatball... I've done a lot of traveling in my life, the United States, Far East Asia...etc... and in my humble opinion "there's no place like home." The good Lord gives and the good Lord takes away, at his whim. There's no place 100% safe. Living in Florida our area was hit by three hurricanes in a row three years ago. I could have moved up to our summer place in east Tennessee but approximately 10 years ago that area was hit by a major tornado... who'd think, a tornado at 1800 feet above sea level? Tornados, floods, blizzards, ice storms and earthquakes can hit any where at any time if the conditions are right. It makes no sense to me to up and move, just to run away! That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! p.s.... darn if I know where the thread is...sorry! |

| | Re: Moving to Tennesee? Mike,
I moved from FL to TN and love it! Eddy's right, there's no place like home, but this mobile society we live in, some of us are shallow rooted. I think I'll grow roots here in TN.
Florida has more lightning strikes THAN ALL THE OTHER 49 STATES COMBINED!!! Lightning is only a side effect of severe storms. One hurricane can generate 100 tornadoes, each putting out hundreds of lightning strikes. I lived on the train tracks for a while, but move to tranquile country. Sit on the tracks long enough and you'll get hurt!
I love Florida, wonderful place! I hope to never be there again in hurricane season! In '05 that was ...what...10 months!!! I honestly miss kayaking ... with aligators! I prefer the aligators to the politicians and taxes, but I'd take 10 aligators to one insurance vulture...sorry for defaming vultures!

| | Re: Moving to Tennesee? Try a "Google" and see what you come up with i.e. .... MIAMI (CNN) -- In Florida, known as the lightning capital of the world, bolts from the sky kill an average of 10 people each year. ... And Wade's correct, in Florida you can't hardly distinguish between the politicians, lawyers, insurance salesmen and alligators especially with the turkey vultures circling overhead! Any body want to buy some swamp land? |

| | Re: Moving to Tennesee? It is Florida. Lived in AZ and they know lightning, but nothing in comparison! Maybe 10%. My building was hit at least 3 times that I know of in 12 years. The statistic is right, more lightning strikes than the other 49 combined.

| | Re: Moving to Tennesee? Depending on where you are in Tennessee I believe the phrase that applies here is.... "Too Late!". East Tennessee has almost as many "halfbacks" per acre as does North Carolina!

| | Re: Moving to Tennesee? Woodguy,
Florida had 40,000 people per MONTH move to FL for the past 12 years! No wonder it got expensive! I'll shut up about Tennessee.
