| | Mottles-Nedra-Anyone Help! Kathy, Nedra, anyone !!!!!
My kids are doing a play and have asked me to paint three of a four piece backdrop. The play is about a group of people in therapy.
The first three backdrop scenes (mine) are to be semi-hard edge/trompe l'oeil with the fourth scene a photograph.
The first three are to show their crazy fantsy world thinking and the photo is the reality scene. I am painting my three scenes together as if they were one painting so that the walls and floors match ....
Now, my question .... AHHH!
Since it is trompe l'oeil is my light source in the center of the three fantasy scenes or in the center of the all four panels .... ?
I don't think there is a wrong answer here, I just can't decide.
Thanks .... Thank you very very much.

| | Re: Mottles-Nedra-Anyone Help! Susan,
From a former director/technical director/lighting tech/scenic designer standpoint...I'd put the light source in the center of the three fantasy scenes.
Without reading the play, I don't know how the backdrops play off each other (and how they will be lit), but I think putting the light in the center of the fantasy scenes will tie them together ever more tightly and create a marked demarcation between the reality and the fantasy...
Do they need any flashpots, or special effects? That's my speciality! I've got the brain of a rat in a box hooked up to a light on my desk (my souvenior from "Possible Worlds), a bat from Dracula, and a Ganesha mask from "A Perfect Ganesh"

| | Re: Mottles-Nedra-Anyone Help! Bob, thank you for offering your services ... I will ask them.
I am thinking along the same lines, keep fantasy and reality very separate. I also was not given a copy of the play but as I understand it the main play happens between the first three scene ... an apartment, therapist one's office and therapist two's office. Each scene will be spotlighted as the players move into that scene area.
Plus I have not seen the photo so have no idea where it's light source is ......
I think I just need some input this morning ... sort of looking for re-enforcement for making the decision to center the light in the three panels.
THANKS! Susan

| | Re: Mottles-Nedra-Anyone Help! The creek was higher yesterday over the day...it's going down now. A little up from me, the Swatara is doing horrible things to Hershey...but we're only a tributary of the Swatara, so we're fine! Didn't even make it up to the big hillside...
