Ash I am just guessing but knowing a little about you and the area you live. I would say it has something to do with the civil war. My guess is General Lee's army on a road in the wilderness. I myself am also a civil war nut or at least that's what my friends call me. How close am I. And no I can't see it I tried must be too dark just a dark blurr. Ron

Sorry Ron, But your close. The picture was taken the first morning of a 40 mile ride into the 140th anniverary of the battle of Sharpsburg. We left Myersville Maryland and followed the orginial trail of Jackson's troops from Federick Md. to Sharpsburg Md. The picture is the head of the column of mounted cavalry on a still very active road, it was a misty rain with a heavy fog that closed in around us as the went up South Mountian. The homes and the area is almost unchanged still today as it was in 1862. The rifle pits , the homes with slave quartes and the stone fences still all exist. As we came up the ridge the fog turned green from the light comming through the foliage. It gave a very errie look to the scene and the guys became so quite all you could hear was your horse breathing and the gravel crunching as they moved up the road. The road was named after a reknown hero of the federals who died near Richmond Va. Last edited by Ashbys; 11-27-2006 at 08:30 AM. |
