| | A man with no leggs~ Today I had a appt with a surgeon at the V.A. for next months surgery.
As I left this morning,I have heard it was so hot you could fry a egg on the side walk,I took a cube steak instead that just ran through my head.
After parking 3 long blocks away from the building I had my appt in,my journey had just begin. The side walks had cracks and was steaming hot,as I hobbled when I walked.Stopping to rest at times,I knew once in side the a/c would be so fine.
Reaching the front door,I stopped to sit down,if not,I'd fell on the floor. To the waiting room I was shown course inside I wasnt alone. I noticed a older gentleman sitting in a wheel chair close to me,his leggs where cut off to the knees.
::SON:: Thats a fine cane you have! Why thank you sir!! trying not to stare below or least to not let it show. Sir I carve a little and made this cane about 10yrs ago,its not much but it keeps me from walking so slow.
He said, I use this old chair to go anywhere. Plus I save money from buying shoes. I smiled at him ,Sir they just called my name,Id better cut you loose.
I patted him on his shoulder and thanked him again, knowing he was in need of a friend.
Once through with the Dr,I hated to think about my walk back to my truck, but in the 1st block I was picked up by the VA bus, what luck!!
Finally reaching my truck,I could hear a bubbling sound?? Yea it was my min steak on my truck hood all golden brown! LOL
I learned again today, when you think your leggs, knees are totally killing you , the thoughts of the olde man in the waiting room will get me through~
..... Tn

| | Re: A man with no leggs~ That is so true. That if a person thinks he or she has it bad take time and think that things could always be worse. Or you are better off than someone else. How was your steak? Should have put on a tater also.

| | Re: A man with no leggs~ Great story Forrest ... Bringing attention to our blessings ..
Two years ago , My legs were burnt badly in a industrial plant accident and I spent a month in a burn center and 4 months before I could walk right ..
Man that taught me something about counting my blessings in having two good legs ..
Thanks so much for the reminder and he was right about that cane you have .. seeing it myself first hand .. it's a beauty ...

| | Re: A man with no leggs~ When I was a kid and would go home and cry and whine about something that I wanted or didn't have and my Mom would always relate to me the story about "the man who thought that he was really bad off because he didn't have any shoes until he met a man who didn't have any feet!" Thanks for the reminder TN!

Gene | Yes Gene you know also about being blessed when we think at times about something about our selves and then it turns into nothing as compared to other people's problems that are alot worse than our own.
You saw the heavy mtn laurel carved walking stick, which is a fine carved cane but too heavy really for me, I've made several canes through out the past years and this one is lighter and has a antler bone handle with groves I cut all the way down the stick part. Will send you a pict of it,it also has a certain meaning to me.
As always I value your thoughts...thanks Forrest
