| | making the move Hi all,
I put my place on the market place "officially" this week, and my husband and I are beginning a search much the same as Wade did to start over.
If anyone happens to know of a really cool place in Missouri (I missed out on Larry Baggett's place...it sold), Tennessee, Arkansas, or Kentucky that is reasonable, has a small house, some acreage, a workshop, fenced area for horses and/or a barn..... is free...just kidding... or has any of the requirements and room for more of them, and lets me know about it, I'll follow up and check it out.
We have been working 7 days a week owning a gallery for 11 years, and we just want some peace.
I'm reclusive to a fault and love pretty views.
Thanks if anyone knows of a paradise waiting for us.

| | Re: making the move Hi Thor,
I sure love Tennessee!
Lawrence County, where we are, is 75 miles south of Nashville, rolling hills and farms. I know of a beautiful old Amish 10 acre farmstead for sale 4 miles from us for $150,000. The adjoining 40 acres is for sale too. The 10 acres has a great old house, never had electricity, needs work, plus 4 barns, a silo, a tripple-seater outhouse, fenced....even a little highway frontage.
I also know of 38 acres with a great 2 bedroom house and a small barn and a 3 to 4 acre pond for $160. There are lots of great buys in Tennessee!
Check out realtor.com for Lawrenceburg and other areas nearby. I'd be happy to give you the name and phone number of my Realtor...believe it or not, it's Davy Crockett! Great guy, direct descendent of the original!
Let me know if you're coming over here and we'll get together and show you around. People are friendly here too! And they like to work! Quite a change from where we live in FL!

| | Re: making the move Hi Wade,
Yes, I would like your real estate agents name and number. I started looking in that area yesterday after reading your post and haven't found anything. Help seems neccessary.
I don't know how you went through this. It is turning our whole world upside down!
Whitecree,
I'm a southern girl....I think I'd freeze to death up there, but I would sure like to see that beautiful country some day.

| | Re: making the move Hi Thor,
I spent 6 months looking at realtor.com , landandfarm.com , and every other lead I could find, just narrowing it down to a general area...it was still between 2 areas (South Tennessee and the Ozarks) until our offer was accepted here!
My Realtor is Davy Crockett in Lawrenceburg, TN. His cell # is 931-629-9200. He's a really good person and will work very hard for you. Tell him I told you about the Amish 10 acre place, and tell him exactly what you'd like to find. He'll treat you right.

| | Re: making the move Wade, From what I gather, you have recently made a major relocation. I have lived in the same place for 35 years. 35 years ago it was in the country, along a major river in with many nice farms. Now it's built up with traffic and taxes and property values out of sight. Am thinking about relocating. Only problem that might be a hinderence is age. I know, that don't mean anything. But when it comes right down to it; it does.. Any opinions or experiences from any body on how old is too old to embark on one last adventure (selling and relocating to the real country again)? | | Re: making the move Tom,
35 years! I envy you!
The whole re-locating thing is very complicated and only you can answer it for you. If you're near lots of family, maybe just 10 or 20 miles up the road would be enough...don't want to break those ties!
My grandparents lived their whole adult lives in the same house they built.
Their daughter, my Mom, was a tumbling tumbleweed. She toted us kids coast to coast, and sent us to Grandma and Grandpa's for the summers (and an occasional school year) and went through several marriages (7). I've often wished I'd spent my life in one town and raised my family there, but I grew up with a lot of tumble weed in me as well.
At 56, I've lived in Florida longer than anywhere in my life--11 years. Previous record was 8 in Washington State.
I'm looking at this move to Tennessee as "the last move" but that's today.
Today my Kids live in New York City, New Orleans, Portland, Oregon, and central Florida. They're all strong and independent and we all still talk and love each other, so I guess the over-all picture wasn't bad for them, but I sure wish they all lived within an hour's drive! And I'm sure thankful for computers and cell phones!
I'd suggest just moving out of town if you have kids and grandkids near by! Or not moving at all if you love it where you are! The grass doesn't stay green long on the other side of the fence once you get there and start grazing it!
Wade

| | Re: making the move Well, McMinnville didn't work out. It's really flat there, and I now know why I like the mountains. You can't see as far. We looked at 5 properties, and none of them could come close to the paradise that we have here. They all had houses right on top of houses.
I'm looking for a place where my children will someday bring their children to come visit. This move is to get away from the growth and traffic that is coming to us like Tom. I want to stay in the country for the rest of my life, and it sure is getting harder to find.
Tom, I have no roots anywhere except where my children are and my daugher is in Costa Rica and my son is here in Dahlonega for another few months, but neither will stay where they are. I agree with Wade that moving is terribly stressful, and I would stay here if I thought my children would. My husband and I are 53 and 51. I figure it is now or never to get really nested in and comfortable again with a whole new adventure. I may be wrong, but we're gonna give it a try. My husband is leaving Sunday to go look at some really nice looking places with land in Missouri.
I'm calling Wade's agent this morning about that area.
This is a lot of work and so far, pretty discouraging.

| | Re: making the move Hey Wade,
I was near Lawrenceburg a few years back. Rode the motorcycles on the Natchez Trace Parkway from Tupleo, Miss. up to Rt.96 then shot east. You're right, very nice area there!
My wife and I have been thinking hard about relocating to SW Virginia or E. Tenn. The rising costs of living in NY might just force the move.
But like Tom H, we've been in the same place for almost 30 yrs. and it's really hard to say goodbye and start all over again. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
