i been seeing a new thing on thew threads called
LinkBacks

ok ill bite...
I read the information on the faq but cant yet understand the use for linkback for the everyday user...


Unless it would be used to link certin topics togather through out the different topic partitions of the subject contained through out the board and collecting the cross posts..

if so how would you know the other links without going on a snipe hunt??

It looks like it's a means for other sites to "know" what's linked on this site, and it works on different levels. I suppose that it would be a two-way thing and if something from this site was used on another, there would some type of communication (via linkback) that tracked it.

I can't tell any more from the description, so I definitely can't tell HOW it works.

I believe search engines use this type of information (frequency of use) when "deciding" what to give back in searches as far as rank.....I could be wrong on this....it's only a guess.

ok mitchell heres a test,

while writing this message at the bottom of this pane down where you manage attachments, there is an imput window labled linkback in its own little pane.

for instance lets pretend this link is for flat plane carving
so i entered Flat plane character
in the input line,
and then ; Flat plane carving exchange
a link to the flat plane carving exchange.
lets see what this dose,
hope it dont turn off the lights......

OK gang i give up..

if you post in the big advanced window by hitting reply, (not quick reply) there is a little window below smiley faces the reply window that has linkbacks input window,

well it may be becuse im moderator status i have this popping up on my end but it was driving me crazy..

and i dunna know whats it for.. so i pushed the envlope...

ive deleted all the posts in this thread 2 or more times but its the spook that has come bck to haunt me

i feel like the dumb A** standing in the middle of the mall with a small piece of paper in my hand that says only turn it over with the same written on the back..

Linkbacks are the new thing....many definitions, I see. Hate to see that it's keeping you up at night. Just think of it as us using our brains to their full extent. Scary, isn't it?

Thom, I now see what you mean. But it says "Trackbacks". I have no clue. Looks like just a place to post url's though.
