| | Life in Idaho . . .so far I've been in Idaho for a week now. Life seems to be good I drove out, approx. 850miles with the dog, a pair of geese and 3 chickens, with stuff loaded to the roof (all my carving stuff of course)of the van in a day and a half. Stopped overnight in Hawthorn, NV. Being dazed and not seeing things very clearly, I wondered what in the world I had done when arrived at my "new" home. It was dark inside and smelly (musty) from being closed up for about a year and having water in the basement. (evidently from the irrigation seepage). All windows were opened up and cleaning helped to get rid of most of the musty smell. After getting stuff put away and some furniture shopping the place has started to feel like home. The "shop" needs a lot of work before it will be a useable carving place so I guess I am going to have to designate an area in the house for carving this winter. I am hoping to get back to it by next week. I am starting to feel the symptoms of withdrawal coming on The big tree is for sure Walnut. There are several maples and a few more that I can't identify, I'll post pics soon.
Hope all of you are well and happily carving away.
Nancy (-CA) hmmm, better change that to -ID

| | Re: Life in Idaho . . .so far HI Nancy,
Good to hear from you. I am excited for you with all of the changes.
My husband and I are moving into a 23 foot 1971 airstream and part of our gallery until we sell our house, and get around to building the new one. Remember us while you are getting to unpack. We won't be unpacking for about a year if then.....I'm even excited about our changes.
Enjoy your new space.

| | Re: Life in Idaho . . .so far Good to hear from you Nancy, and glad you are getting settled in. Always lots to do when moving, so your time for carving will come once the urgent stuff gets done. You'll have all winter to set up and enjoy your new shop/studio.

| | Re: Life in Idaho . . .so far Well, welcome "home" Nancy! After you've spent a full winter here, I'll mail you your Official Idaho Papers. You'll be a card-carrying-Idahodean. Now, I'm making a special exception in your case, because we over here on the Eastern "high country" side don't consider winters over there on the Western side "real winters"....lolol. But, they still are miles different then from where you come from....grin. You will prolly feel at home in the summer, though...it can get mighty hot and dry over there.
Glad to have ya! There are a few carvers over on your side that I know of (bird carvers). There's Tom Matus in Boise, and Ken Weybright and Ted Smith, both in Nampa.

| | Re: Life in Idaho . . .so far Lori, thanksfor the welcome. I look forward to getting my "Official Idaho papers" Well, this winter should be an interesting experience for sure. Everyone has said' what will you do in the winter?" "You'll freeze there". Gotta say that in my opinion, at least where I lived in So. CA I hated the winters for the last 5 years or so. The climate seemed to change ( or did I change???), winters were pretty much constant wind many times up to 45-60 mph gusts, and it does get cold there. Might be 40-50 during the day then drop to 17-25 at night. Snows a few times each winter also. The first 24 years of my life were spent in cold, snowy places - New England and Kentucky. (I wasn'r this old though
Yup, it is an adventure with lots more to come. The hardest part is trying to find my way around this town/city. Crazy streets! Get lost everytime I go out

I don't know where Lewiston is Heck I don't know where my own house is if I get a mile away.
