Good Day Folks! I'm looking for some lettering templates. Would prefer something a little beyond rudimentary block letters with some range of size. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks |

What type and size ? Stencils ? I know most art supply stores still carry the plastic versions in various sizes , and most likely Wally world. Personally I just use printer fonts , Print it out on paper and either cut it out or glue it direct to the wood. But if you need something more than that I am sure many here can make them for you. |

I moved this to off topic as I think it is a bit more suited here. Ash |

You might also check leather tooling suppliers. Tandy or some independent vendor. I did custom leather tooling for many years and they have templates of all sizes and styles. They usually have the plastic sheet with the raised design to press on the surface of the leather and transfer the design. But there is also usually a paper pattern with it. That could be copied and cut out for tracing if need be. I haven't looked at their book selection in years but by now they might even have a book of lettering patterns. Another thought is Dover Books. They are on line now so it is easy to look for what you want. There may be a book on lettering styles. You might have to take the page you like to an office supply like Staples and enlarge the lettering to the size you want but we do that all the time with patterns anyhow......or at least I do. I sketch my designs in small scale and then enlarge it on a copier when I am happy with it. good luck with your search. If all else fails, the local library probably has a book on lettering. susieq ps I really loved Ashby's idea of printer fonts. You can blow them up right on the screen and print them, one letter at a time if you have to. Last edited by susieq; 02-03-2007 at 09:51 AM. |

printer fonts are simply the easiest to make custom lettering with that i know of, if you have word (which adds more fonts) you can print out each letter up to page sized, there is some experiminting to do ant finding just right font, but there are websites dedicated just to fonts you can use... give your computer a chance its the cheapest method out there, then at most hobbie craft stores you can get vinal sheeting to male a more perminate timplate, or just glue the letters right on the wood with arleens tacky glue...

I use my computer for all my lettering. I have Coral draw which allows me to bend and shape the letters to fit what ever I'm carving. If you still want stencils Micheal's or Ben Franklin crafts should have a good selection!
