| | Re: what kinda new carving toys did we all get I got a Foredom, a new cordless Dremel, goggles (eye protection), a coping saw and another handy dandy saw to go in the backpack I got for my wood hunt'n expeditions.
After I clean up trhe remaining Christmas mess this morning I will fire up that Foredom and give her a try ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif)

| | Re: what kinda new carving toys did we all get Hi All! A very Merry Christmas to all !!
Didn't get any carving gear cuz I didn't ask for any. I know if I had a list my 3 daughters would make sure I Got everything and I don't want them to go into hock. Besides, I like surprises.
My greatest gift was celebrating with my family and watching the wonder and joy in the faces of our 8 grandchildren. Special to me was the reaction I got when I presented each of them with a carved angel ornament.
Stuff I can always buy.

| | Does This Qualify? Does a set of tree loppers (with two, count 'em - two different cutters), shears and handle extensions for levarage count as "woodcarving" tools?
These babies are so powerful they had to paint 'em Industrial Orange!

| | Re: what kinda new carving toys did we all get I got two books, "Carving Fantasy & Legend Figures in Wood" by Sean Cipa and a book on carving Christmas ornaments that are also whistles. I'm too lazy to get up and go get the book to get the exact title. I also got some money which I'm adding to the money I've been saving, so as soon as I get the time, and finish cleaning out my workshop, I'm going to be getting a bandsaw.

My hard drive committed suicide a while ago and I lost some fonts...so I was adding new pages with different but similar fonts. Now everything is up to date.
BTW...you edited out the quip about being a bonafied "tree whacker" if I had a cherry picker...not gonna happen...afraid of heights.
Hi-Ho...my Sis doesn't have a lot of room to talk...

| | Re: what kinda new carving toys did we all get I posted my list earlier, but I did some revising at Woodcraft yesterday. Among my Christmas gifts, my wife had picked up 2 nice Pfiel gouges and while I have about 5 immediate needs for one of them (a 30mm #3 sweep) but wasn't really sure what I would use the other for (a heavy duty bent scoop) so I took it and a coping saw (nicer than the one I have, but I rarely use it since I have a scroll saw and band saw) back to Woodcraft and traded them in and got a Flexcut palm set with interchangable blades, an adapter to make those blades fit in the Weecher handpiece I got for Christmas and a grab box of basswood. Still had a couple of dollars in change, so I strolled into Big Lots and got a Dickies work belt replacement strap (like a watchman's belt with no buckle) for $4.99. It is real leather and the inside surface is just rough enough for good strop material. I already have some comopund that came with a soft wheel. I have been finding that I like pushing gouges better than whittling with a knife - roughing with a Warren fishtail and then switching to a knife and feeling like I had less control - so it made a lot of sense to get plam tools. My initial impression from using them is that it was indeed a very good idea. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
