| | Kids are... like dogs, except when they are like cats. Read on!
When your child is small, he or she is most like a dog. You feed it, and train it. You reach out and give it a friendly pat on the head and it responds with an affectionate wriggle and crawls up in your lap. It eats anything you put in front of it, and asks for more. It loves to go for a ride with you, and gets excited when near other family members.
Then, around age 13 or so, an amazing transformation occurs. Your friendly, affectionate child that acts a lot like a dog, now turns into a cat.
You try to feed it, and it turns its nose up - no matter what it is. You try to train it, and it just stares at you like you are insane. Reach out to give it a friendly pat on the head and it snarls at you and stalks off, severely offended. It refuses to get in the car. It can't be bothered visiting with relatives.
When your cat-like teen gets hungry, it will invade the kitchen, eat anything and everything, then complain there is nothing to eat. It will go out the door at all odd hours, and vanish. You'll never know where it goes, and it acts furtive and secretive when it does come home. It drags strange and unwholesome things home with it. It sleeps in odd places, at odd times. When you talk to it, it just gives you that blank stare, like it hears a funny noise and is trying to figure out what it is.
You, not knowing your dog has turned into a cat, will be badly upset. The more you reach out, the less it responds. You'll be consumed with guilt and a strong sense of frustration, with intimations of doom soon to come. You'll lie awake at night, wondering what you did wrong.
About all you can do is leave the kitchen open, the front door unlocked, and look for the henna to keep your hair from going completely grey.
Errr, not sure where I'm going with this, but it struck me as amusing, anyway. |

| | Re: Kids are... Well WC, a couple kicks in the back side usually change that Cat to a human being. Og I forgot, a couple in the morning, afternoon and at night, then wake it up in the middle of the night, ad kick the back side a couple more times for good messure.
Well, It worked for my Father. Sort of! |

| | Re: Kids are... Any chance I get to brag and show a picture, I will Take it. Plus when Kenny mentioned the change to cat, I immediately thought of this photo.
When I get this bass finished, I'll park the carving tools for a while and get busy making up some toddler's toys. Got orders from Mom and Dad, so I better pay attention!
BTW the bass got stalled for a couple days this week-end when I got the paints out and they had congealed. Did manage to get the airbrush out, cleaned and operatng! Hobby shop didn't open till this AM. Sometimes it's heck living in a small rural area, but it has it's perks, too, like watching the racoons and deer and buntings, and goldfinches etc. in the back yard.

| | Re: Kids are... Dogs, cats, kids! Geez, you hit the nail on the head Whitecree. Gone through all stages and they're out on their own now, driving the rest of the world crazy. One went from cat to horses a**, other to a mother hen!
Al, that is one sweet baby! Too bad she'll grow up! Enjoy her while you can. I hope the cat isn't under there teaching her? Kira has taken over our granddaughters lessons, here she is teaching her how to feed herself!
