Default kazoo

Have it in mind to make a few kazoos and whittle them into something (hopefully recognizable), but I'm having trouble making a working wooden kazoo. Anybody got any pointers?

Brian, I made a duck call one time, but for the life of my I can't remember how I did it. You will need a reed in there of some kind, very thin, so it vibrates when you talk. Try a youtube search.

Good luck, Tom

Can't help you out on carving one, but you can use a wax paper disc for the membrane.
I've repaired a few old kazoos with that.

Take a ride to the south end of Rt 62 in Eden NY and visit the Kazoo factory. They give factory tours and I'm sure you can get a few ideas there.

Paul, I have to get out there. It's only half hour away, but after 35 years here I've never made the trip.
BobK, I've done some whistles too- a fish and a thumb, a train engine and a hot dog all out of box elder. Need to work on the whistle mechanism a little more, those wern't loud enough (mother of the toddler got the train might disagree)

Back to the kazoo- spent a few hours fiddling with some pvc, finally got a working kazoo- I was making the membrane too tight, has to be pretty loose to vibrate. Duh.

Just remembered something about the whistles- Sis suggested I make one look like a horse, I asked here if whe wanted to blow into his mouth or the other end, she never got back to me on that......
