Default Independence Ks Woodcarving Show

Not a big one by any stretch of the imagination but a quality one with quality carvers, Rusty Johnson was the Judge for the show and he had a booth there also.

One thing that caught my eye was a gentleman form Weirs Ks who Has been carving since 2003. I ask him if he subsribed to WCI and he said yes and he has lurked on the board but has not joined. I told him he should as he is a great carver also. He had a Snowy Owl that looked so real, I thought its head was going to turn when I walked by. He had several other carvingthat were equaly great. I was telling him about the Santa ornament swap and how he need to get in it but he said he was not good enough yet. WOW, I was floored by that comment. Hope I getThat not good enouigh. Anyway, when he reads this, Hopefully he will join as he would be a great asset to the board and to us also.

This afternoon at 1 pm A Jim Splading was goiung to teach people how to carve love spoons and it appeared that he had plenty of blanks but I have other commitments this after noon so Did not stay.

A good friend and quailty carver Les Van le was there and had several cottonwood carvings and was carving on a piece That I had given him plus other in the round carvings.
No photos of it and hopefully this year they have photos in their write up in the othe Mag, Chip Chat.

Well the little bride said it was times to take the little ones to the show, Over the Hedge so catch y'll later.

Kenny,

I am honestly depressed that you did not let me know there was a show this close to me... I would have seen if the beautiful one would have let me out of my Honey-Dos to visit over there!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!!

Sean

Kenny - we're over near St. Louis but husband's relatives are in KC. I wonder if I could have persuaded him to head over in that direction ................
Gee, I'd love the opportunity to meet you some day.

Sean and Nacy, Independenc eKs, is about 80 miles west of Joplin Mo and about a three to three and half hour drive from KC mo. But yep, It would have been nice to meet you all.

If you all take Chip Chats, they are usually in the back under events and every year around the 5th to th&th of Aug, Independence has their Carving show. Personally, Not worth the drive.
Maybe 13 or 14 carvers and wood turners but most had double and some triple booths or ables, but quality works for sure.
Well, If any of you know Rusty Johnson, then you know the quality of his carvings and the rest were equal to his. I think Lynn knows him well. Rusty has been carving for 10 years and his cowboy scene are right there with Lynn's. I would hate to Judge both of those guys to come out a winner.
Talk about stress on a judge.
Rusty was runner up in the Woodcraft Santa carving for 2005. I liked his better.
