Imported Ornament

This is what Santa ornament carvers are up against. This 4" Santa is made of wood, appears to be carved, and not resin cast. A tiny sticker on the bottom includes the name of an instate firm, their city, and the American flag. The shop where I found the ornament sells them for $7.99, and their cost is $4.00. A quick survey of the store empolyees and a few customers revealed that they thought that the ornament was made/carved in the USA. A call to the firm revealed that the ornament was made in China....Tom H

Yep and the person who carved it got maybe 25 or 50 cents. Kind of like selling out to the enemy!

As long as people are willing to buy cheaper versions, there's not a whole lot we can do. Luckily, alot of people still prefer handmade products.

Jillsy, these are hand made or carved by cheap overseas labor. probably not much more than 25 to 50 cents each, if that much. Strange what making a buck will do to some Americans.
