| | Ice! The wife got out the other day and took some photos so thought I would pass along one. It doesn't really show the damage done to the trees around our property. It does show the oak that put pay to our power. We went out and put a rope on it and winched it to another tree, otherwise it would have gone completely over and took out the line. As it was the ice just shorted our the transformer and blew the fuse. Unfortnatelly, while a fuse replace might only take a few minutes we have to get in line with the rest of the thousands who are without power.
You might think that being without power means you just set around and wait. NO WAY! To keep things going around here plus taking care of my 93 year old Mom's place too really keeps us hopping. Hopefully, it will end soon and we can get back to a little more normal life.
Everyone is hoping that the President goes along with the Governors request to make it a Major Disaster so we can write off the costs of this thing. Generators and the gas to run them is not cheap. |

| | Re: Ice! Thanks for the picture Lynn, looks like you got nailed pretty hard. Went through one in '94 that took out power for 6 days so I can relate a little. The worse part was when it started to melt and all we heard was trees snapping. Really scary. Spent the whole summer cutting fire wood from that mess. I hope you guys get a little relief from the weather soon so you can back to the better things in life. Glad no one was hurt in your household.

| | Re: Ice! We went through an ice storm like that a few years ago too.
On the bright side it makes for some great pictures and memories staying close together trying to keep warm and just survive without power or heat. Thank God for the wood stove and a enough firewood to last through it. We had to move our bed into the livingroom next to the woodstove for a week just to keep warm at night. The worst part was our pipes in the basement bathroom froze and then flooded the basement when it did thaw. ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) I was at work when they let loose, when I came home I heard the water running and knew exactly what was happening. We had to have big fans brought in to dry the carpet and walls, they even had the walls perferated about 12-16 inches up from the floor to dry them out. In the end nothing of our personal property was damaged, but it was quite the experience. |

| | Re: Ice! That 's a crying shame Lynn. Those poor trees can take a lot, but ice isn't one of them! Glad you and your family are safe, and that you have alternate power.

| | Re: Ice! Lynn, that's awfull! We lost about 1/3 of our trees last year in two heavy, wet snowfalls, but NOTHING like you are enduring. We sure hope that your recovery from this storm is airly rapid.
