| | House building progress Thor advised me that I have not posted photos of the progress on the house building efforts. The motif is a 1915 era farmhouse (Diana's grandfather homesteaded the original 160 acres in 1912).
It has cedar siding and a tin roof. We have attempted to conceal as many of the modern conveniences as possible. The contractor wanted to "do something different" to show his abilities which was our good luck. All of the doors were constructed by him. The exterior doors are construction grade pine and the interior "barn doors" were hung with pulleys on oak rails that we made.
The light above the sink is made from buckets and galvanized pipe. The mirror is actually hung and supported by the hames.
Since we plan on maintaining a guest house here on the ranch, we decided that a two bedroom was sufficient. The front of the house is one big (20'x61') kitchen/dining/living room.
I will post more photos as we are in the final stages of finishing and things are beginning to get interesting. |

| | Re: House building progress Paul, it is beautiful! I know you must be so proud! Love the exterior door, the siding is so rich looking, and the interior details are clever and delightful.
All will be complimented by the trim I'm sure you'll eventually carve for it. What a wonderful place to call home for a lifetime.
Thanks for posting the pictures. I've really wondered how that was coming.

I'm glad though, that "I" don't live there ..... with that gorgeous view, I'd never get anything done!!! Thanks for sharing.

| | Re: House building progress Ron, you come on down anytime. That is one big porch for us to sit on. I will describe a wonderful view out over the Ozark Mountains for you to enjoy. I gaaaronteee. Partially because it is true and the rest because we Cajuns have never allowed reality to get in the way of a good description or a good story. |

| | Re: House building progress Although I take a look at postings almost daily, I have not been doing much posting this spring. Things have been pretty hectic here in Whooping Hollow. Although we are in the new house, we are still in the throes of moving. Luckily, it is one of the shortest (300 feet) and easiest moves (of the 12) that we have made. First, we moved up the things we needed to camp out, then the things we needed to be comfortable, and now the rest of the stuff. We are using 8 cardboard boxes, loading them at the old place, unloading and putting away at the new house, and taking the same boxes back for the next batch. This way things stay pretty much in order up here......can't say the same for the old place as we shift things around to get to what we want to move now. I am still putting in shelves and doing some other small, but time consuming, jobs around the new house. Rain nearly everyday has kept grass mowing high on my "to do" list. I have also purchased a pre-fab building (14x28 feet) to use as a woodcarving studio. I will have to electrify, insulate, put in windows, build a deck, and cover the walls, ceiling, and floor. But, my brother has offered to help and it should go pretty fast. I purchased 2 sets of adjustable scaffolding, on locking wheels, to use in building our house. I plan on converting these for carving benches. I posted pics of the exterior and some of the unusual features earlier. Here are some of the finished product. |

| | Re: House building progress Paul, Thanks for the photos and update. I, for one, have been following your progress, and have your photos in a favorite folder. You see, I am too chicken to attempt anything like a move myself. But your new place is looking more comfortable. and homey as each step of your work is completed. A very unique home your are building. I remember a photo that you posted early on in the project. The photo had a ton of black snakes on your porch. You still got the snakes? They ever go inside?
