| | House and Studio Thor asked about progress on my house building effort. Diana and I had hoped to be in there around the New Year. Then our contractor contracted pneumonia and slowed things down.
He is now back on the job and we have all of the rooms except the dining/living room area pretty well finished. One of the two beams is complete and I will eventually be doing relief carvings in the basswood on the front of them. I have almost completed construction of the wagon wheel ceiling fan. Now, we have to figure out how in the world we are going to get that thing up to the 16' ceiling. The wheels are 3 feet in diameter and the whole thing is just over 6 feet long.
I do have plans for a carving cart that can be pushed back into a closet and rolled out into the living room, or onto the porch, when I want to carve at the house. But, the studio is, hopefully, lying on the ground near where I want to build it. I am hoping to sell enough black walnut to pay for a separate carving studio and the first cutting looks promising. |

| | Re: House and Studio OK, is that entire 6 foot wagon wheel fan going to spin? That's amazing. Will it hang vertically or horizontally?
Just love the ceiling and all of that space!
Great place for some carvings on that big beam too. What a fun and heart felt project you are working on!
Thanks for updating us.

| | Re: House and Studio Paul lad, you do have your hands full! I'd love to watch a video of you installing that fan!!! What a hoot! That's some really nice looking Walnut you have laying there! I can see all kind of possibilities!
Great looking place. Wished we lived closer, I'd enjoy setting on the porch with ya and whittling away on some of that Walnut or helping you with the Basswood beam faces.

| | Re: House and Studio Thanks everyone for the comments on the house.
Thor, the wheel will be mounted horizontally and we have found a motor (with gearbox) that will turn it at only 8 rpm. There are two antique fans in opposite ends of the great room to blow air to the center toward the wagon wheel.
There are also two "bathroom fans" with ducts that will circulate the warm air from the ceiling area of the great room back into the bedrooms and bathrooms.
Charlotte, we have made every attempt to produce a 1915 era rustic farm house. The ceiling is actually re-sawn contruction grade pine. There are 5 different widths and 10 different thicknesses to those boards.
Bob, I too wish we lived closer. Diana and I enjoy company and I certainly can use some help on carving those beam panels. It is also a lot of fun to just sit and carve with friends. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
