Default what the heck is this

Hi all, my hubby and I was out in the desert just looking for stuff. and came across some fun stuff. found some graphite pens, and charcoal pins, and some sandpaper strops of some kind. and this wired thing, can any one tell me what this is used for. I am not sure what the graphite pens are used for. or the charcoal pins, or the sandpaper strops.(has many layers of sand paper, 220 I think) but mostly. this tube of I don't know what. seams like a felt type tube of some kind. it is very soft on both ends. and looks like it is beveled to do something. erasing or burnishing, or something. looks like a great find, but just don't know what to do with them. thanks Evie.
how do I use any of these.? thanks

Looks like artist's sketching supplies to me. The sandpaper pads are used to sharpen pencils where you don't have access to a mechanical sharpener. We used them a lot in the old draftsman days.

The second and third picture is what they call a Tortilian(sp). used to blend in Charcoal or Pencil drawings. Or a shader if you will. Made out of rolled paper.
Definitely Artist supplies. Nice find. Bet whoever lost it is mad at themselves.
You can draw with the charcoal and graphite and the colores looks like oil or chalk colors.

Kenny, tortillian, now that is something I can look up. the other is chalk. I don't think they were lost. just dumped. It is so wired what folks will dump out it desert. their lost is my gane. I thought it might be a shadier tool. but when I tried, it just smeared around. but now I can practice more. .thanks Evie

Evie, some people call it a strop??????, others stump?????? I just called it a shader and yes it will smear the drawing, but a light touch as you work it out to shade an object like dark where the sun doesn't shine. Oh My, that didn't sound right.LOL

Yep Wizlla111, Pastels for sure.

In the "old" days, when you could go to the dump....we found a "bunch", I mean a "Bunch" of school supplies, paint, paper, etc etc...even a new American Flag in a box....turns out it was dumped in order to order new supplies because the new budget was coming in .....nice huh? ever wonder whats wrong with America?

Hey, looks like a cool fine for sure. Looks like hard pastels, the sandpaper would be used to put an edge or point on the pastels. The stump would be used for blending the pastel color after drawn onto the pastel paper or even smooth watercolor paper.
The pastels can be used on paper to draw, or in a motion such as you would use color crayons. Just do some experimenting with them and like other's have said just have fun.
