| | happy about first selling :-) hi everybody, i just want share with all my friends here at wci my joy about my very first selling :-) i just sold mary poppins to my very first customer :-) ... i was not very good in selling, as i misjudged how badly he wanted have her, so i asked to low a price. he would have paid easily double, he actually said so, after we have made the deal. i think he meant it positive, so that i can learn for next selling... anyway, despite that, i am very happy, first, and i think first is always most difficult, step successfully done :-)
thank you all for being always so encouraging to me, that was it why i dared to try selling mary poppins, in my eyes, she has too many flaws, but customer really is happy, and that makes me happy too... |

| | Re: happy about first selling :-) Well done Doris. Your first sale is always the most difficult, and I am glad the buyer said what they did, as it gives you a better idea of the value of your work. Congratulations!!!

| | Re: happy about first selling :-) Congratulation Doris; Your Mary Poppins was a great carving. It's hard to put a price on something like that but now you will know in the future.
Keep on carving.

| | Re: happy about first selling :-) I understand what your going through Doris as I've been told that I sell my carvings very cheaply...but its a hobby for me so I don't have the overhead that many carvers have who do this as a career or a need to supplement income. If someone request a carving to be made, that's different and can influence cost.
My biggest worry is that another local carver may find that I'm undercutting his/her business. If that ever occurs than I will go with the standard rate. One thing about selling at a lower cost, if anything goes wrong with the carving, they can't come back and say "hey there is a crack in my carving". The business end of this enjoyment is starting to influence my carving experience and I'm trying to separate the two.
Glad to hear that someone else appreciates your work....perhaps you can't put a price on a carving...and the dollars received is a token gesture. But for some, I expect it pays the bills.
