Default Green Mtn.Wood Carvers Exhibit August 18

This morning I signed up as the newest member of Green Mountain Woodcarvers (unless someone else joined this afternoon!)

Having only recently taken up wood carving (whittling, really) two years ago I was looking for the opportunity to meet like-minded folks in my area to learn from. Boy, did I find right place!

This morning I attended my first Green Mountain Wood Carvers “Carve In”. This informal get-together was held, conveniently for me, on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain only a few minutes from my home. I was overwhelmed by the quality & variety of the carvings I saw there.
My whittlings stayed in the car, well out of sight! ;-)

Several of the members that I met today will be showing their works at the Green Mountain Wood Carvers 34th Annual Exhibit & Sale at People Academy Gym in
Morrisville, Vermont on August 18th between 9-4.
It’s New England’s longest running continuous show.
I highly recommend that you take a trip.
I personally can hardly wait!

So you're one of the Green Mountain Boys! Good for you. That's a beautiful part of the state. I've got kin folk and friends throughout Vermont but I haven't had the pleasure of getting up that way in over 35-years. We had property over in Peacham. Beautiful there too and plenty of wood to carve. I could just see myself sitting on the porch while carving and overlooking the pond. Keep making chips!

Hello RussL,
That is a beautiful part of the country. I was visiting a friend who lives in the area during the summers, a 12th generation Vermonter...and a heck of a power carver. He is a member of the Green Mountain club also and I did that show back in 96 or 97 while visiting Frank. I have no doubt that he will be demonstrating for Foredom at the show this year. It was a lot of fun doing the show and seeing the sights while up there. You will love it. I envy you.

RussL,

Welcome to the Green Moutain Woodcarvers! It's been a while since I've managed to attend a meeting but I keep my membership current. I'd hoped to go yesterday since I live in Milton and it isn't that far to St. Albans Bay. I wound up working on the "Honey-Do" list instead.

I've been to the show a couple of times and I enjoy it. I missed last year's since it was the same day as the air show. This year it's the same day as a cousin's wedding but he's not getting married until 5pm. Thank goodness!

See you around!

Sound like a great show. Bit of a hike for me down in the Hudson Valley of NY, but I love VT. My wife and I started dating on a retreat at Weston Priory (well, that's where I got up the nerve to actually ask her out). I had friends who used to live in southern VT in Jacksonville. He was the ski shop manager at Mt. Snow. I always envisioned moving to VT one day. But my wife hates the cold so she is pushing to move south, and I hate the heat so I push to move north - and we reamin stuck firmly in the middle in NY. <sigh>

Beautiful area. Sounds like a great club you have there.

!
