| | Re: Gps? Hi ho , I have a garmin street pilot 111, my son has a tom tom he wishes he had bought one like mine, The only draw back is mine only has 128mb memory to store maps, so you have to down load from your computor. the newer ones have all the maps loaded in already. you are right to get a portable because any car or truck you drive you can take the gps with you.no matter where you are tell it you want to go back where you started . and it takes you back . and its a man thing . think about it you will never have to ask directions again. lol
ps go to circit city they will demonstrate it for you

| | Re: Gps? I have one that works with Microsofts Streets & Trips but you have to use your laptop. Took it along on our trip to Ohio and had a real blast using it. I was looking at the new Garmins at Best Buy the other day and they are really neat, especially the ones that show the maps at an angle. . |

| | Re: Gps? I have checked into the garmin setup they have for the blind. they run 15 hundred dallars. I have a friend that has one and does allot of traveling. He has allot of problems with interference. If he is in NY city the tall buildings block the signal and he has to load the city that he is going to 's map into it before it will work there. As far as out in the woods or wherever hiking it might be alright but that's where us blind people don't go much.

| | Re: Gps? We do a lot of Geocaching as a hobby ( www.geocaching.com) and we use a Garmin GPSMap 60C which we really like. It is easy to use, has lots of memory and stores a large map of the US. We also use an old Garmin 72 which is also very good but does not have as much memory.Additionaly we have a Gateway laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips loaded and also has a Garmin Topo map loaded which is an excellent tool in the car. If you go to the Geocaching website you will find a ton of info on GPS in the forums.
I have an older Street Pilot with all the bells and whistles which we used for several years which was factory refurbished and updated a couple of years ago. We no longer use the Street Pilot and I would be willing to sell it reasonably priced or trade for carving tools and/or books etc. If you are interested in a used Street Pilot let me know. |
