Default Goodbye for the summer.

I haven't been on the forum of late. Been busy with end of school and the yard and travel to see the grown kids. And now I will be off the board for a longer time. Just wanted everyone to know I'm not mad (students say I may be crazy) and I am not going to forget the forum. I am going to China for the summer to teach English. I am going to a city called Tai'an. A small one by Chinese standards, only 5 mill. No where near Chengdu and the earthquake region. Will look forward to getting back to the forum come mid August. Happy carving to you all in the meantime. I do plan to take a few knives and one or two pieces of wood. Not much more - you know how the whole baggage thing is going. If anything comes of Chinese inspiration I will share. I will also take my camera and look for some good carvings to share.

Blessings on your summer.

John K Karver.

You might consider getting your knives over there.....rather than take a chance of "losing" them on the airlines.....china has shoddy made stuff, but sometimes the steel is good and can be sharpened up....just an idea.

Hi John,

How fortunate to be able to work and travel but more importantly help bridge the cultural gap with the Chinese.

Don't forget to look around and check out the different woods they use for carving. Who knows, you might even run across some boxwood.

Have a fun and safe trip.
