2012, starting out strange two me. Laid to rest "Gracie" the BEST dog I have ever been owned by. Lost to illness and blindness. Having raised Pugs for a great many years, I was finally down to one 10 year male "George", Gracie's mate. A dear friend stopped by with a 12 wk. old Black Pug male, mine for the taking. Already broke my resolution. "Ozzie" is new to my crew, and lies at my feet chewing on wood chips and toes. Life is grand.

Dennis, he is wonderful! And you got him just at the right time. Over the years I have learned something that most folks don't think about. The old dog is as much a teacher to the new pup as the owner is. Every new pup we've brought into our home when no older dog was living there, was much harder to train. They are just a lot more work....worth every bit of it, but still a lot more work. But bring in a youngster while your old dog is still with you and the pup will learn the house rules much quicker and easier. The pup tends to imitate the old dog, probably something to do with pack mentality but what ever it is, the old dog becomes the teacher. Will there still be mistakes, yes, but not nearly as many. I'm really happy for you. A new pup is such a joy and when they finally settle in and learn the house rules, they are the best companions ever. Right now our boxer is an extreme senior citizen and hubby says no more dogs for a while...... I am hoping he will change his mind. Can't imagine life without a dog. I may have to come live with you....LOL Congrats on the new guy. |
