Default Gone for a while

Hi all ,

This weekend I took a class with Pete Leclair, while working on his piece I became aware of something I have been doing that I never realized before. So as of right now I have stopped carving until I get this issue corrected and the only way I know to do it is, is to stop working on cavring anything else until I can get what I want.

So in the meantime I will be off the boards. So before anyone starts saying anything it has nothing to do with anyone or anything here , but I want to really see if I can change the issue and the only way I know how to do it , is to work it out myself. Hopefully it will not take too long.

Ash

Good luck Ash. We hope that your problem is solved very quickly, both because it will be something you desire and because we will miss your posts here on the Forum.

It would really be interesting to know what type of "issue" could arise during a Pete Leclair class that would cause one to stop carving completely. My only thought, considering the size of teeth on all of Pete's carvings, maybe it's a dental problem? Whatever it could be I hope you solve it quickly.

So ... having read this thread this morning as coming to the forum is the first thing I do in the morning as the coffee is making.

So ... reading the Garry is LEAVING carving for some mysterious problem ...

So ... being alone in the studio with only my imagination which is always a very dangerous situation for me.

I called Garry!

He is not dying, suffering from some terrible illness or in need of a lobadamy (SP) and therefore requesting a hospital bed new to Old Teddy! Nor has he been so criticed as to give up carving or any other art form forever! Nor has he suffered a major recognition of how much time, energy or money this hobby can incur.

What he is going through is for him to share but I will say that everyone has lots of time to go get their morning coffee, go to the John, check the emails and read their favorite homepage before they panic.

So ... I am off to have my first cup which is now ice coffee

Susan

Morning Susan, thank you for calling Ash, and yes it's for him to reveal why he's putting carving aside for a while. I personally, will miss his postings and only selfishly say 'Come Back Soon' Ash.
Now, where'd I put my coffee cup!

Gee.....here we had a chance for all kinds of speculation about the reason or reasons for Gary's absence and someone tosses a bucket of cold water on the issue. We could have had a real Oprah moment!

Come back soon Gary! You're missed already!

Thanks for the support all , I was threatened if I didn't post and let you know I am fine.

Pete's is an amazing teacher, and as I was working on one part of the carving , he made a statement about it , that kinda hit on something I that I was aware of , but really had not worked on. While working on a second piece of pete I reached the same area , and remembered the words, and a light went off.

It is something that is fine for char. carving , but is just not correct for realistic. Most carving I do is more to realistic and I found myself no longer thinking about the carving but thinking how could I correct myself from not contintuing doing the same thing.

This is what I have been doing, to perfect a small part of a carving that I have been overlooking but a detail that makes a world of difference. So I am carving but not on any type of project other than this. I am not asking for help because it is something I have to work out myself. If I asked for help I am sure there would be many helpful suggestions, but I am not sure it would give me what I want.

So I am being a bit like Bob , I know it's wrong and I have to correct it. The problem is I also have to be consistant to do it correctly , so I am practicing and developing something new for me . And that combined with everything else I am doing leaves no time , so when I have it down the way I think I can do it , I will be back .

Don't worry about Garry. I think once he gets this all figured out and down to what he wants he will be back carving and posting. We still talk everyday and I will let you know if he goes completely nuts.
