Hi all, I have been trying to figure out how the gallery viewing numbers work. If a pictures has a viewing number under it - say 600 - does that mean 600 people have viewed? It doesn't seem to work that way, but I am not sure. Sometimes I think it works in multiples of 3, so that the above pic is viewed by 200 not 600. Is that so, if so , why? Also, does my looking at my own pic count as a view (multipler of 3?) Thanks in advance for the help. John K Karver Last edited by K Karver; 10-03-2008 at 09:54 AM. Reason: Added questions |

John: I went into my own and did a little experimenting. I clicked on a single thumbnail, the page switched to a larger version, so I hit my back button, then hit the refresh button to see what had changed. Mine incremented by five! Then I hit back again, to get back to the list of member galleries starting with "C", refreshed again, and found it had changed by a total of six! If you look above the larger photo that shows up in the gallery, you'll still see four other thumbnails of "previous" and "next" photos. I believe it server is counting these thumbnail views, plus the larger photo, in it's totals. I think it also adds in another "viewing" when you refresh the page after looking at one of the photos. For a rough estimate of "actual" views, divide by 4 or 5... Claude |

On the left side of the window, click on Carver Galleries, then about in the middle of the page, click on Member Galleries. Then click on the letter that starts your screen name (C, for you), locate your screen name, then click on the mini-photo on the right side that is one of your carvings. When the new page shows up, copy the URL at the top of the window (that's the u r l http://thingy) - "http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/13422/sl/c]Carver/Turner_FromNowhere Gallery - Wood Carving Illustrated Photo Gallery" is yours... Now, up on the green line in the middle of the page, click on User CP, then towards the left side, click on Edit Signature. When the new page comes up, in the open area in the middle, like you're posting, Type My [ then paste in your URL thingy type ] then type WCI Gallery Be careful that there are no spaces between the [ and the http, and between the sl/c and ] The square brackets are very important, and between them, there can be no spaces. Then click on the Save Signature button at the bottom. |

Thanks Claude, appreciate the input. Like your bottom line Carver/Turner. We all need to be willing to take more critique. And we learn from it. Best wood grain is in the wood that has weathered the storm. A few more stormy critiques and we all might benefit. John

The line in your sig should be this sort of thing: My [ url=http://woodcarvingillustra...] WCI Gallery[/url ] The "My" and the space after it are the first part of the sig. Everything between the square brackets [ and ] is the that long URl I gave you, and it is important that there are no spaces between the set of square brackets. Then the "space" "WCI Gallery", which is the LABEL for the URL. Following the label, without a space, is the closing stuff. Again, between the pair of square brackets, there can be no spaces. So... what you'll have is text, the URL=stuff inside brackets, more text that is the LABEL for the URL, followed by the closer, again inside brackets. In the HTML "programming language" special effects or commands are "turned on" then "turned off" by using the same command, but with a / in front of it. For example, click on the Hopefully, this is a bit clearer to you... Claude |
