Default Fun at family reunion.

My wife's family held a big family reunion of their entire crowd, this past week-end in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada and it was well attended. A whole seperate branch of the family flew in from California and Hawaii for the occasion to meet the East coast family. They are all of Scottish decent (Mac Donalds) and it was interesting to see how the family traits emerged over the generations.

With so many people in attendance, the noise got to me, so I had to take frequent breaks resting out in the car in the parking lot ...... (I'm an in-law so I wasn't missed a great deal) ...... but I wasn't bored, as I had my portable travel carving kit with me. Some of the family found their way out to me and I ended up entertaining more and more with my carvings. I was working on yet another bunny and a Celtic Knot and before you knew it, they both ended up in kids pockets, as reminders of their trip to NS. I had done some burnings for the US families, of the Bluenose under sail, as gifts to remind them as well, and they went over very well. I also gave a few Celtic Knots away that I had with me, one family from Hawaii is very much into their Scottish roots, so I thought they might enjoy the Knots, which they did.

The whole crowd had a good time and it was a pleasure to see them all at some function other than a funeral! Carving helped me get through the day and perhaps a few more folks will be bitten by the carving bug now that they see that even an in-law can do it!!! LOL My only problem, was I hadn't brought enough carvings for everyone! Must remember for next time.

Bob

Hi Bob

Wow! That's great to be with family AND enjoy carving, too! I'm glad for you and it sounds like your carving kit worked out great for you. I guess you were glad you got it together in time for giving it a good trial run at the reunion, huh?

Great story!

Take care,
Bob L

Hi Bob, I enjoyed reading your thoughts on your wife's family reunion very much. Your right it's nice to see family members all together and not at a funeral which is most often the case.
I bet your car must have got a little crowded with them watching you carve. It's really nice you shared your carving skill with others, that's what it's all about.

Great story. I had a similar situation a couple of years ago at our family reunion. One of my aunts asked to see some of the things I had carved so I was showing her some and she happened to see on of a santa that I had messed up on and hadn't quite figured out how I was going to straighten up. She asked how much I wanted for it. I told her it wasn't finished that I had messed it up and hadn't figured out how to fix it. She said she liked it just as it was. She had some other carvings she had bought from her travels and wanted one that I had made. I told her if she wanted it to just take it. She tried to pay me for it and I told her if it brought her some enjoyment then that was all the pay I needed. She was tickled to death and I was too.
