Default Fred & I and Davenport

I carved my "sad Indian" to enter in the International Woodcarving Congress but decided a few weeks ago that I would skip it this year until Hana, Fred Zavadil's wife emailed me to ask if I was going if I would take some of his carvings along. A couple of emails later Fred and I decided to take our carvings down together to the competition and drive back and then go the following weekend.
Fred arrived last Friday night at my house as kindly opened the box's he brought and showed my family his carvings. After talking a little too long(11:30 pm) we got a little sleep then we left my house at 4 am. We got to Davenport Iowa at 11 am had lunch then entered our carvings then drove back and got back to my house at 10 pm. Then Fred had a two hour drive back to Kitchener. Are we Crazy or what!!!
Fred and I will be at the awards banquet and hanging around on Sunday so hope to meet some of you at the show.
This is a good opportunity to see Fred's carvings and there is a new one that no one has seen yet so if you can you should go. There is also something special that happened this year.

Andy

Are you two coming to the Social Friday night? I'll be at the Judges Critique Saturday, and the banquet Saturday night.

Hi Doris, Yes I got a close look at his carvings and Fred invited me to his studio to do some sculpting sometime. So I am looking forward to it.

No Bob, Fred and I are leaving Saturday morning and arrive a couple of hours before the banquet. I have enjoyed the ice-cream social in the past maybe next year. Yes we will be at the Banquet.

Hi Andy,

Great job on the "sad Indian". You ought to do really well at the show. Anyway, I wish you good luck on the judging.

Also, thanks for all your great advice on carving eyes. Between that and seeing your carvings, it should help me with my own.

Since Vicki Bishop broke the news yes Fred won 1st, 2nd and 3rd best of show. Hana phoned me Tuesday afternoon to tell me the good news. That is the first time that one person took all three best of shows at the congress.
