| | frankenfinger What is considered a bad cut? I just had to get 5 stitches in my finger. First time I've ever had that bad of a cut. I was working on gene's little guy tutorial and I was wearing my kevlar glove. But I took it off to sharpen my knife and didn't put it back on

| | Re: frankenfinger I'd say any time you're concerned enough about a cut to check with the doctor, it's "bad". And when you need stitches confirms that it's "bad"...Following this line of thought, I have never had a "bad" cut. But then that's not to say I have not used lots of super glue, rags, and bandaids.

| | Re: frankenfinger Well......lets see now........I always wear my glove, if I start to pick something up to make that "one last cut" I remember my own advice....so what happens? I have a little hook type blade I made and needed to strop it on my machine......had the knife in my right hand, turned the machine on and the emory cloth came loose and started flapping like crazy...it startled me and yep you guessed it! somewhere in my jumping from being startled, I put about a one inch gash in the outside of my left hand.....someone please tell me how that happended? ha ha..........geez, don't give retired people knives!! (do it mean I have to wear a glove ALL the time?) lol |

| | Re: frankenfinger I think the term "bad" is relative.......I've never felt I've been cut bad enough to require stitches (afraid of needles) but have opened up my thumb right to the bone, all the way around, just below the fingernail (hand axe), sliced my left forefinger to the bone (pocket knife), had a couple nasty chainsaw accidents, lost a few arguments with barbed wire fences and sheetmetal, etc...never thought of them as BAD, so if the limb is still attached to the body, and I'm not pumping out voluminous quantities of blood that are unstopable, I don't consider it bad!
And I ain't no tough guy, just deathly afraid of doctors, needles and any other mechanical device associated with doctors offices or hospitals!

| | Re: frankenfinger Before the Glove, had cuts all over my hand. Now, after the Glove, only get cuts when I take it off and cut just one more cut. Usually, a part of my hand. When you are a bleeder, every cut is bad! |

| | Re: frankenfinger Chris .. I feel bad you had to do it on one of my litttle guy's attempt ..
But when you go that small .. always use a glove and if possible a shorter blade knife for small detail .. the knife I use for the little guys is only a 1 1/8 inch blade , a Ron Wells because I can control it easier ..
Sorry about the mishap .. please let us know how you are doing ..
Gene

| | Re: frankenfinger I've never had a cut so bad that I couldn't do my own "doctorin'". Mind you there have been a couple of pretty deep cuts and I have the scars to prove it. I will never be a hand model at least not my left hand. I am thankful for sharp tools since it makes the healing process that much easier. I now wear a glove and when I think "just one more cut" I put everything away. I have learned where that last cut will end up. |

| | Re: frankenfinger It doesn't really hurt. And I havn't lost any feeling around the finger. I'm doing my little guy is a 2x2x6 block of pine. So he will be a little bit bigger than the tutorial. I just kick myself for not putting that glove back on. The cost of an ER visit is more than a complete set of Pfeil tools . I think I will take a picture of my stitches and leave it around my tools .

Chris | Chris: while a picture of your stitches may remind you to wear your glove, it may also act as incentive to your tools to try harder!

| | Re: frankenfinger If you're not going to dress up like I was in a recent thread that I posted then you'd better stock in a good supply of butterfly bandages and talfa pads! It ain't a matter of if you cut yourself, just when! Folks laugh at me when I ad another piece of safety quipment to my collection but if the truth be known I really need that coat of armor!
