Wow, I have to say that this is probably one of the most satisfying things I've done. I had a class of nine people and so see them actually "get it" is amazing. As with any class there were those who were better at listening to the instructions and trying to follow them than others. I had one who was an absolute speed demon and not that terribly interested in following or taking guidance so I let her do her own thing and helped when asked. There were others that really wanted to understand what it was they were supposed to be doing and wanting to know how to get specific results and effects - they were the ones I most enjoyed. At the end of the seminar it was so cool to see that everyone had achieved something they should be proud of because although there were differences in quality every one of them looked good. I guess they enjoyed the class because the reviews were outstanding and almost all of them want to take the next seminar in the spring and there was even one that asked for a more advanced seminar to do some landscape burnings. Susan Irish, your books were truly in evidence with some of the more experienced burners as examples for the rest of the class of different patterns to burn as well as examples for wonderful books with fabulous patterns. For any of you who haven't given a class but have always wanted to you should do it - the gratitfication of seeing your students do well is beyond words! Regards, Linda |

Congratulations! Your first class is always the most memorable, and it is good to hear your observations of the types of students. Some can be a challenge! Glad to see you are passing on your skills and promoting the craft! Well done. Bob

Thanks, I really did enjoy it and am looking forward to my next seminar in February where we'll be carving the toothpick holder. The class is almost full so that's a good thing and the next pyrography class looks like it should fill up almost as quickly as it is opened up for booking. It is just too cool being able to share the skills I have and watch people discover the joy of this craft. |
