I was wondering. I love to watch movies and read and I'd love to find fictional or biographical books, short stories or movies that involve woodworking, carving, or crafts as either a peripheral or main theme but are NOT how to material. So far my favorites are: Book: The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey - childrens book about a woodcarver's redemption from a tragic loss. This will also be released as a movie I think around this Christmas starring Tom Berringer in the lead role. Movie: The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn - Sydney Poitier This is wonderful movie about a man who maintains a beautiful home in an old barn that he grew up on and his fight to keep his farm from an unscrupulous character who wants the land to develop it. Anybody have other suggestions? ChuckT |

Interesting, I will have to look those up. My input would have to be the Lord of the Rings movies. The elven villages, the norse-like horse people and their carved dwellings, and furniture were all worth stopping the movie over and over to take a closer look. Thor |

Yep - I loved the design work in those movies, and LOTR and the Hobbit are my favorite books of all time! Thanks Thor.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. In there, one race of beings actually "sings" the wood and trees into shape...That is just such a beautiful analogy...I often think about than the tool is whistling through the wood... Bob |

G'day all Please correct me if I'm wrong, but in the 1984 movie "Places in the heart" I believe the character played by Sally Field supplemented income by woodcarving. Cheers John |

was watching my all time favorite western last night again for the umptenth time, but for my first time in years and also for the first time since i started carving and last night noticed the cook on the trail ride, po campo, had carved deets a little saint or madonna and gave it to him,i really didn't remember this part but then agin i wasn't carving at the time.this is the second robert duvall movie i've seen with carving in it,i wonder if he is an actual carver? i know in broken trail it shows him carving but i wonder if he actually did the carving? or just made a few cuts for the apperance on the movie.
