Default Ear problem

No, this doesn't have to do with me carving an ear, I'm the one with the problem!

Yesterday I woke up and felt my left ear *pop*. Ever since then, it's felt stuffed and I keep hearing a low constant humming. It's the equivalent of being a few feet under water. I tried peroxide, but it didn't work. Ted said this has happened to him and I just have to wait it out. Any suggestions?

Please don't suggest the doctor! That's my last resort. I've taken the kids to the doctor so many times the past few weeks (and scheduled again for this Thursday) I can't bear to look at another stethescope!!

Jillsy, the other day you were asking about hallucinating, (or was it optical illusion) and now you're hearing things. I'm beginning to be a little concerned about you.

More serious, I don't recall ever having that problem in my 65 years, but I've led a very sheltered life and haven't experienced a lot of things.

Even more serious, I can't help you!

Jillsy,
It might be worth a trip to the Dr.

An eardrum is easily popped...or if you have a wax buildup...

It's better than one of the kids my wife works with...he stuck a little plastic football in his ear and it had to be surgically removed!

Jillsy,
unless you have had a cold , or are taking one , I would guess you have a bit of internal pressure on your inter ear. Usally caused from a bit of wax build up. I am not a medical doctor and I would not want to be considered giving medical advice , but I can tell you that I had something that is close to what you describe . Now according to the old family doctor , that still made house calls many years ago, it it was caused from a bit of pressure and the best way to treat it for me was to heat a little olive oil and place it in the ear canal. Something to loosen up the wax and allow the pressure to normalize. So after using the treatment seemed to work, I still use it if I get a cold.

Not saying to not go to the doctor , but a 2.00 bottle of olive oil , a bit of heat a tuff of cotton to hold it in the ear might work for you, if nothing else it will give you a nice skin treatment. Until you go to the doctor .

Smile

Sorry, I am not a doctor and these days with the political correctness crowd, I ain't about to practice medicine without a lisence. Never know who I would wind up in jail with!

Dudes, I would have thought with all the years combined that there'd be a laundry list of suggestions! I gotta start making more women friends!!

Ash, I have had a cold (a gift from the babies) and think it's from that. Feels alittle better today - maybe yelling at the kids helped pop it! haha!

You may be experiencing the first stages of tinnitis(sp). I have it in my left ear and it sounds like a steam pipe letting off a little pressure. At first it drove me nuts but after three years I've finally gotten used to it. Take my advice and get it checked out now in case you can correct a problem that might cause you the loss of more hearing.

If you have a cold chances are it is from the infection, and I would suggest you get it checked out.

The oil will help ear aches and yes it is from an old buggy doctor I think he was about 90 in 68 . Only time I can remember getting hit from a doctor slap me gave me a shot never felt the shot. Had a lot of respect for that old man.

Ear Aches are my life.. ugh. Another suggestion is to keep cotton in that ear.. sounds will keep your ear drum moving and theres a muscle in there that tightens up from sounds. Makes more pressure in the ear. Since you've got colds in your house.. I would suggest a doctor to look deep in there. You may have an infection going on and in need of a good antibiotic. I lost alot of hearing in one ear from infections deep in the ear. Please dont wait to long.

Another comfort is to heat up a rice bag or hot water bottle and lay with that ear on it. Heat is wonderful for earaches. Hot drinks also.

I feel for you.. I know what horrible pain or discomfort those earaches can be. If you feel dizzy or get the feeling like your head is moving slower than your body..thats your inner ear and your equiblerium? getting messed up. Do ONE more trip to the doc, lady...

I hope this clears up for you soon.

JIllsy,

Often times people think they need to run to the Doctor's off ice or in some cases the emergency room. Try calling him and asking what to do. My guess is that since you have a cold, your nasal congestion has extended into your sinuses and your ears--at least the part the called the eustachian tube. It is usually cleared up with an over the counter decongestant like Sudafed. Sitting with a hot cup of tea or soup under your nose and breathing the steam might even do the trick. But in any event, Doctors go through a lot of training and internships to get where they are. If he's worth his salt as a Doctor, he'll tell you what to do, or prescribe something until you can get in to see him. So, make sure you do call him.
