Nah, she has been a jewel through her surgery. Knew she was tough but she is showing how tough she is. No pain meds today and has been up and down on the knee. Even walked out to the porch to look out then saw the temp gauge, back inside she went, Heat index was 117 here in Caney.
Hopeful her recovery progresses smoothly. |

| | Re: Does "hand carved" imply hand tools? I read as far as Hugh's reply and found my exact answer, I agree with him and the others with like thoughts! As long as a hand is directing a 'hand held' tool, whether power or not, it's handmade in my opinion!
Kenny, please tell your little bride I wish her a very speedy recovery! Deborah |

| | Re: Does "hand carved" imply hand tools? As far as unimportant...I think that's a matter of opinion (and I know we've all got them).
This thread may seem unimportant, and may have come up several times, but it's interesting to me because it's the philosophy of carving! The intellectuals spend hours discussing the ideas behind Picasso's Blue Period, or Munk's Scream...why can't we do the same with our work! We can't carve all the time <grin>

| | Re: Does "hand carved" imply hand tools? Decoycarve - Here's my shot at your picture. Even though you can't see the brachts, the leaves and flowers look like they are from a basswood tree. (Or Linden, which is the same thing.)
As to the "hand carved" question, most crafts have to struggle with the same issue, and there is a long slippery slope from "hand crafted" to whatever is at the other end.... (machine mass produced?
In my mind, when you look at a "hand carved" piece, you can see the "hand" of the carver in the piece, the skill of the carver, the joy the carver had in carving the piece, and the perspective of the carver. In other words, when you look at a hand carved piece, you can see the person who carved the piece staring out at you. That's what makes it hand carved. If it was machine produced, you see a machine at work when you look at the piece.
Whether or not the carver used a power tool along the way is irrelevant to me. The important thing is if I can see the carver's mind and hands at work when I look at the piece. When I look at a piece I have carved, I see something of myself staring back. That's me out there. It's a good feeling. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
