Smile What do you do with broken Band Saw blades

I bought a Delta 10 " Band Saw and a couple of blades. It wasn't long before that I had a Band Saw without blades that would work. ( broken). I called Delta to see if they had a repair kit. Nope, the reply I got was buy a new blade. When I was in the Navy on our Band Saw was unit that would weld the broken blades, so I felt there should be one somewhere. I found one with no effort on the Web. I checked with Woodcraft and to my sirprise there it was, and at a reasonable price. $34.95. That includes Fixture,Torch, Fluz, and Brazing Rod. Believe it or not, IT WORKS with ease. Thought maybe someone outthere was using Deltas recomendations and don't need to.

Only band saw blades I use is Wolf and on scroll saws the Flying dutchman brand.
I think lynn has aused repair kit of something to that nature.

Fortunantly, I have never broke a Wolf brand blade.

Thanks for nthe info on the repair kit.
BTW, maybe someone on the board may need one. What name brand and where on the net did you get your repair kit.

Merle ... I have a 14" delta and I usually dont break blades .. but they do eventually dull ... I didnt even know they had a repair kit .. Thanks for the info ..

I usually get my blades for the 14" at Lowe's .. but not under the delta name .. Their satisfactory for quite sometime ..

Alot of people make carving knife blades from bandsaw blades because their so hard .. I have used one and it's not to bad ..

Also here's a little something I still do with the old blade's ( now dont laugh) . but when our club would have show's .. I would carve little axe's and make cross cut saw's out of the blade's and put them in branches and give them to the kid's just so they could have something .. simple , but they loved them
Here's a pic ..

I've been repairing my blades for years and have yet to have one break on any weld I made. I think I gave around $20 for my repair kit which included a clamp that lines up the blade to be soldered, a strip of silver solder and some flux. I usually get about 5 welds out of a blade before it becomes to small to fit over my wheels, remember that in the repair you're sanding a bevel on each blade so the blade overall gets a little smaller each time. When you figure about 15-20 dollars for a good blade you're really saving some money by fixing them yourself.

I use Olsen 3/16" 4 teeth per inch for just about everthing. Anything smaller doesn't track good and anything larger doesn't turn a sharp enough radius for me. The skip tooth blade never binds.

Clever idea gene. (imagination, hmm ) That's where I got my Saw and blades.( Lowes ). I have broken blades for years in the Navy and it carried over to now I guess. I think the problem now is the saw guides that came with the saw were to soft. They were like brushes in an elect. motor, soft. i got replacement guides thru Rockler Woodworking and seems to have solved the problem for now. I just remembered, my father had one when I was in High School. That's when I started my experience on breaking band saw blades. lol. Merle
