"I do believe I do Believe I do Believe!"
Guess what?! I came home to a stack of old burly walnut ...nice and neat...and a huge 14 ft. board of gorgeous Oak...oh yes! We came up carrying groceries in the rain...arms full and my husband says..."What the hell?" I looked around...OMG! DAVE WAS HERE! It's funny how you recognize someones saw marks? Yep-my HS shop teacher! I do believe in fairies...even burly grey haired ones!

Ha! Loved that, "burly grey haired" faeries!! That'd make an awesome caricature no? This big burly grey haired dude with faerie wings lugging a stack of lumber to drop on a doorstep - "The Wood Faerie strikes again!!"

Too funny.

Thanks for the chuckle Keoma.

A word to the wise, fairy's & angles don't always want to be recognised. Sometimes, just a discreet Thankyou! and they will watch to see what you do with it. You never know.

The Wood Fairy has been found! It was a gentleman who had visited my display this spring at the Eco-Center, and we had a nice conversation at the time about some of my work, and our mutual passion for wood.

I remember him because he had given the staff at the center "old blazes" for not being open earlier when he first arrived, as he had driven a considerable way to come and see the display.

He phoned yesterday to make sure that I found the Butternut and told me he was on the trail of some larger pieces for me. What a really nice guy. Wouldn't take a cent for the wood, but I will carve him something special from a piece of it, as a thank you.

Mystery solved!

The wood fairy around here is the local lumber mill. They make handrails out of basswood and if they find a blemish in the wood they put the round dowel in a pile and sell them for $.70each for 2" dowels by 6 to 8 feet long. If you stop in on occasion you can also find basswood and other cutoffs for a good price.

Basswood cutoffs are $1 each for any size they have mostly 2" X 6,8, or10" by 18" to 38" long. I also picked up a nice piece of Mahogony 2.5" X 13" X 28" for $14.
