| | Do you believe in the Wood Fairy? Simple question I would think ........ "Do you believe in the Wood Fairy?"
The Wood Fairy is the one that leaves wood for deserving carvers so that they may carry on carving in their favorite wood! You don't have to loose a tooth, and the wood doesn't appear under your pillow, it can appear anywhere.
I didn't believe untill this week! Now I'm a believer!!!
My wife and I were out earlier this week to do some errands and when we returned home, there stacked neatly next to our deck was four wonderful, beautiful, precious boards of Butternut! The boards still had the bark on them and were about 1" x 10" x about 8' long. Also stacked neatly next to those were a dozen 8" x 8" x 1" small squares of Butternut. No note, no name, no nothing.
BUTTERNUT!!!!! WOW ....... there truly is a Wood Fairy!!!
My only delema is ....... how to find the Wood Fairy and thank him/her! (Okay Sherlock....get busy!)

| | Re: Do you believe in the Wood Fairy? The wood fairy works in mysterious ways....... sometimes I find carving wood in the darnest places. I went with my husband to look at some large woodworking tools about 100 miles north of us a few years back. Way out in the middle of no where too. This old guy was selling out his shop of tools. He had been a "pattern maker". We asked if he had any wood for sale too. I'm thinking building lumber, 2x4s, etc.... He said sure, follow me. We went around to a small shed and there was the mother load of Jelutong!!!! Pattern makers love that stuff! Who knew? He had several 10 foot boards of 2x10 and 2 1/2 x 12 . I got it all for $30. I am still carving santa tree ornaments from some of that stuff.
A couple times a year, I will find some excellent basswood or butternut at a yard sale where, unfortunately, someone has either given up carving or passed on. I think the wood fairy and fate are sisters....... |

Grimnir is one of the names taken by the Norse God Odin on his travels around Midghard. I see you have a Thor here too

| | Re: Do you believe in the Wood Fairy? Ahh - yep. I am only mildly familar with Norse mythology, but really into Tolkien who borrowed heavily from that material.
If you're into Norse mythology you owe it to yourself to check out Thor's work and her Funky Chicken web site. LOVE IT!!!
Edit - here's the link: The Funky Chicken Art Project: Wood

| | Re: Do you believe in the Wood Fairy? Hey Bob, I believe and for good reason. Look below to see what I found in the bed of my pick-up. Yep, a nice big block of tupelo. Now, all I have to do is to figure out how to get it out of the truck and back to my shop. Hope my grandsons come around today.
