richard,

you may also want to add buying some bandaids, cause when you learn to sharpen, you will need some bandaids.

I'm not looking forward to getting cut. I once broke my hand in a car crash and went to dinner before going to the hospital because I was hungry and I knew they would be closed when I got done dealing with my hand. But let me get the smallest cut on my hand and the world starts to spin. I don't fear the knife I just give it alot of respect and so far its been good to me.

Fearing the knife is not good, but a healthy respect for what it can do in a moment's inattention is.

Just remember not to go swatting at any flies while holding a knife, and you should be okay.

Of all those I think #8 is the most important. Of course my missess can't wait for me to start carving decorations for the home. No pressure at all right?
