Well, Allice, as long as my dinner is on the table at 5:45 PM, my laundry is washed, folded and put away, the bathroom floor is washed, the shower is dried off, the carpets all vacuumed, and the dishes washed and put away, I DON'T CARE WHAT THE HECK YOU DO WITH YOUR SPARE TIME!!!! Al |

I know two guys who'll be sleeping on the couch if their wives read this.

Alice, Wife and I have learned that we must share. I cook and do the dishes every other day. We only clean the house when we expect company. But we are both kind of hermits so that's no problem. The only thing we don't take turns on is washing clothes...That's because I screwed a load up real bad once. We even share the ironing. If my wife wants to read and work puzzles all day that's fine with me. If I want to carve all day that's fine with her. This ideal situation started the day I retired at 50 years old....in 1989. Life is grand, we both have it made...Tom H

All depends, Alice. If I got home at night and said "where's my dinner?", my wife would likely respond "in the freezer; you haven't cooked it yet!" She did most of the cooking when our sons were young, and I do most of it now, as I enjoy cooking and she doesn't. She gladly does the dishes afterward, which is a task I dislike, so we both are happy when I cook. Claude |

Wow! It sounds as if a couple of you guys have them "magic underwear drawers"! Lucky you! Alice... Actually my life is more like Tom's. My "magic underwear drawer" retired the same day that I did. I do as much around the house as I'm allowed given that I have dyed a couple of loads of underwear pink and royaly screwed up a couple of pots and pans trying to cook. But with that said I clean a mean bathroom, make beds, do all the dishes and anything else my Queen requests. We both have our hobbies so her free time is as precious to her as mind is to me. Utopia would be having no chores and carving all day for me and cross sticthcing all day for her, but alas, perhaps in another life time for both of us! Sarcastic

Greetings from a kindred soul, Alice..... When our kids were small, I did get 3 meals a day, the house work got done....sometimes, but I always found time for what ever hobby held my interest right then. Over the years it was, bonsai (still at it) leather tooling, raising and showing English Bulldogs, breeding and selling parrot family birds, and finally woodcarving...this is over a span of nearly 40 years. But I have found my niche in wood carving. This is probably where I will be from now on. Since the kids have grown and married, have their own kids, I have become much less domestic even, than I was before....which was "not very". First off, if you have a passion for something, it is going to be your top priority. Artists HAVE to do what they do, it isn't a question of whether you have other things to do or not. Your art will come first. The people who love you will understand.... We are consumed by it. Luckily, my husband loves to cook. Once in a great while, he will ask me "what did you have planned for supper tonight". I ususally give an honest answer...."nothing, what do you suggest". I do work part time, I do keep the house clean and I clean up the kitchen when he is finished. The house isn't perfect, never was, never will be. We seem to be ok with our situation most of the time......good luck to you finding your balance. But, you have to do what feeds your soul. If not, you will be miserable. susieq |

My dear Granny was a spotless house cleaner. no dirt of any size was ever found in her house. She had floors so clean you could eat off of them. Most ever time we had a family get together we did just that as Granny did not have a dinning room table. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
